The calendar in Makkah decides how a sitting room is used. During Ramadan, and again through the Umrah and Hajj seasons, households take in extended family, and furnished apartments and hotels fill and empty many times over. A majlis sofa in Makkah has to cope with those peaks without looking tired in the quiet months. Sofhu makes each set to order in Türkiye, cut to the room, and ships it free.
Seating that copes with a full house
The useful measure for a busy home is not the number of pieces but the length of the seating run. A long, unbroken row along the main wall seats more people than the same length broken into armchairs, and it can take a sleeping guest at night.

Three points are worth deciding early.
- Firmness. Sofhu fills its cushions with 32 kg/m³ polyurethane foam and no springs. Density tells you how much material is in the cushion, and denser foam generally holds its height longer under daily use. You can ask for a softer or firmer feel.
- Armrests. Fixed armrests divide the row into places. Loose ones can be lifted away when the room is full.
- The centre. Leave the middle open for the sufra. An ottoman and floor cushions can be added and stacked aside.
Our iftar and Eid seating plan works through a full evening, and how many people a majlis seats helps you size the run. The existing article on Arabic sofas for Ramadan meetings adds more ideas.
Furnished apartments and hotels
Hospitality buyers have their own brief here. Their needs are plain: the same look in every unit, covers that can be stripped and washed between stays, and a layout that seats a family group in a compact room.
A narrow room with seating on both long walls and across the window end is a typical apartment plan.

Sofhu takes wholesale enquiries from small and large companies and makes sets to a project brief. The wholesale majlis and Arabic sofas hub explains how to enquire, and the existing page on the Arabic majlis for hotels shows the product in that setting. Send one measured room plan per unit type and the number of units.
Hijazi rooms, old and new
The traditional Hijazi house was built upward, with carved wooden roshan bay windows and a men’s reception section near the entrance that included the maq’ad and the majlis. Most families in Makkah now live in apartments and modern villas, but the habit of a dedicated room for receiving guests is unchanged.
There is no single documented “Hijazi sofa”. Two directions are worth considering: a classic set in burgundy, black or gold for the formal guest room, and a calmer modern set in grey, blue or beige for the family room. Both are on the Saudi majlis page, and the Arabic jalsa hub covers the sets most families use day to day.
Sofhu makes two products for these rooms. The Arabic majlis pictured on this page is raised to sofa height, with an upholstered base, tall fixed backs and arm bolsters. The Arabic floor sofa is the low alternative, a floor-level seat mattress with loose back cushions and an ottoman, and it is the easier one to turn into a bed for an overnight guest.

Covers for a city that is hot all year
Makkah is hot in every season, so warmth against the skin matters more than it does in Riyadh or Taif.
| Fabric | In the heat | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Linen | Breathable and absorbent | Family rooms, daytime use |
| Flat jacquard weave | Cooler than pile, hides marks | Guest apartments |
| Velvet | Warmer to the touch | Air-conditioned formal rooms |
All covers are zippered and removable. Sofhu states they can be machine washed at 30°C. The comparison of velvet, linen and jacquard goes into each, and beige, cream and grey majlis ideas shows the lighter palettes.
Ordering and delivery
Sofhu has no branch in Makkah. A set is made in Türkiye from your measurements, vacuum packed and sent by cargo carrier, with free shipping. No fixed delivery time is published, so state your deadline when you enquire. Duties or taxes may apply depending on the destination. The page on ordering a majlis in the GCC lists what to confirm first, and the live Arabic sofa in Saudi Arabia page covers the country as a whole. Families furnishing a second home nearby can also read the pages for Madinah and Taif.
