An Arabic majlis for a home in the USA is ordered direct from the manufacturer. Sofhu builds each set in Türkiye, a raised majlis or a low floor sofa, to the wall measurements you send, fills it with 32 kg/m³ high-density foam and ships it free to any US address. There are no American stores; you get a quote by measurement, then the set comes to your door.

An Arabic majlis in the USA is ordered, not picked up. Sofhu is the manufacturer: each set is cut in Türkiye to the walls of one room, filled with 32 kg/m³ high-density foam, and shipped free to the address you give, in any of the fifty states. This page is the map. It explains how an order travels from the workshop to an American front door, then points you to the guide for your state or city, where the advice is specific to the homes, weather and communities there.
How majlis sofa delivery to the USA works
An order moves in three steps: you measure, Sofhu builds, a cargo carrier delivers.
- You send the length of each wall, a few photos and the layout you have in mind.
- Sofhu prices that exact set and settles fabric, colour and foam feel with you, by message or on a video call with a designer.
- The finished set is vacuum packed, which shrinks the foam for transport, and shipped to your door. Shipping is free.
When the parcels arrive, open the sealed bags by hand and keep blades away from the fabric. The foam starts to recover its shape as soon as air reaches it. The guide to how a majlis is packed, shipped and set up walks through that day.
Free shipping covers the carriage. Import duty and tax are decided by US customs rules and may apply depending on the shipment, so ask Sofhu how they are handled before you order. The background is in importing a majlis sofa to the USA.
People searching for an Arabic furniture store in the United States should know one thing plainly: Sofhu has no American shop. It works as an Arabic furniture store online, building to order and delivering to the door.
Where Arabic seating is part of American life
The families who sit on a majlis are spread across the country, but not evenly. Arab American communities are concentrated in metro Detroit and Dearborn, New York and northern New Jersey, Los Angeles and Orange County, Chicago and Houston. Other communities have their own centres:
- Yemeni families in Dearborn and Hamtramck, the Bronx and Brooklyn, Lackawanna near Buffalo, and the farm towns of California’s San Joaquin Valley. Their story has its own article, Yemeni majlises for the USA.
- Afghan families in Fremont, California, and in Northern Virginia, where guests are seated on toshak mattresses.
- Somali families in Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Columbus and Seattle.
- Iraqi families in metro Detroit, El Cajon near San Diego, and Phoenix.
- Iranian families in Los Angeles and Orange County.
The occasions are the same from coast to coast: iftar and the long evenings of Ramadan, Eid mornings, henna nights, condolence visits, and the ordinary weekend when relatives drive in from two states away and stay late.

Fitting an Arabic sofa into American rooms
The layout follows the room, and American rooms come in three broad kinds.
Apartments and condos. One usable wall, or two meeting in a corner, calls for a single row or an L-shape. The seating is not freestanding: every run needs a wall or something solid behind it. See a majlis in a small apartment.
Detached houses with a spare room or finished basement. A room that can be given over to guests suits a U-shape along three walls. The L-shape and U-shape layout guide compares the two.
Open-plan great rooms. An L-shape in one corner marks out a sitting area without building anything, and it can live beside a dining table and a Western couch.
Before you measure, look down. Floor vents, baseboard heaters and outlets sit exactly where the seating wants to go. Mark each one on your sketch so a section can stop short of it.

Climate matters too in a country that runs from the humid Gulf Coast to the dry Southwest and the cold northern states. Sofhu describes its linen as porous and refreshing in hot weather, and its suede as a good choice for fall and winter. It describes velvet as durable and easy to clean. Whatever the fabric, the covers unzip, and Sofhu states they can be washed at 30°C.
Choosing a style: jalsah, diwan or toshak
Sofhu makes two products, the raised majlis and the low floor sofa, and several styles of each. The right one usually follows how your own family hosts.
- A raised Arabic majlis or jalsah: sofa-height seating built as upholstered units with fixed backs and arm bolsters, in an L or a U, for a formal guest room.
- A low Arabic floor sofa: a seat mattress on the floor with loose back cushions and armrest blocks, plain or patterned, easy to rearrange.
- A full-room Yemeni-style set with rug, curtains and armrests between sitters.
- An Afghan toshak arrangement, softer and looser, with cushions against the wall.

The navy floor sofas with cream eight-point stars shown on this page are a Sofhu design. Fabric, colour, pattern and stitching can all be changed, and you can ask for softer or firmer foam.
