Only Bulgaria lies between Romania and Türkiye, and that closeness shows in who orders an Arabic majlis in Romania. Some buyers have Turkish and Tatar roots on the Black Sea coast and remember the cushioned sedir in a grandparent’s house. Others belong to the Arab families who settled in Bucharest and want the sitting room they knew in Damascus, Beirut or Baghdad. Sofhu makes seating for both in Türkiye, to the wall measurements of the room, and ships it free.
Two communities, two seating traditions
Romania has a historic Turkish and Tatar Muslim community in Dobruja, in and around Constanța county. Its domestic tradition is Ottoman. The Turkish sedir is a raised seat built against the wall, usually under the windows, with cushioned backrests, and the place of honour is the corner furthest from the door. Our page on the Turkish sedir describes it in detail.
The second community is newer. Since the student exchanges of the communist era, Syrians, Lebanese, Palestinians and Iraqis have built an established Arab community in Bucharest, many of them working in business and medicine. Their reference is the Levantine and Iraqi guest room: seating around the walls, coffee and tea in the middle, room for visitors at Eid. See Syrian and Levantine Arabic seating for that tradition.

Floor-level or raised: which Sofhu set matches
Sofhu makes both heights, so the choice follows the tradition you want to keep and the people who will sit there.
| Floor sofa | Raised wooden bench set | |
|---|---|---|
| Closest tradition | Gulf, Yemeni and Levantine floor seating | Turkish sedir |
| Structure | Foam cushions on the floor | Wooden frame with cushions |
| Moving it | Light, modular, vacuum packed | Heavier, framed |
| Suits | Families, children, flexible rooms | Formal rooms, older guests |
The bench sets are described on Sofhu’s wooden bench majlis page, and the carved-frame Turkish majlis is the most formal version. For the trade-offs between the two heights, read floor seating vs raised diwan. Between the two sits the Arabic majlis: a raised seat like the bench, but fully upholstered, with a solid base and a fixed back, as in the camel velvet set above. The Arabic floor sofa page shows the floor-level range, and the Arabic majlis and jalsa majlis hubs show the raised sets.
Apartments in Bucharest, houses on the coast
Bucharest homes are mostly apartments, where the living room has one or two usable walls. An L-shape in the corner away from the door is the usual answer.

A house in Dobruja may have a separate guest room, and there a U-shape along three walls makes sense.

A complete room is more than the seats. Sofhu also makes the ottoman, the floor cushions and the rug or kilim that sit in the middle, and curtains in a matching fabric, so the guest room can be ordered as one scheme instead of piece by piece. Families who host at Eid often add extra floor cushions, which give more places around the tray without lengthening the seating itself.
In either case, remember that a floor sofa is not freestanding. The backrests need a wall behind them, so measure only solid wall, at floor level, and note the radiators and door swings.
Fabric and foam for a continental climate
Romania has cold winters and warm summers, so the fabric has to work in both. Velvet and chenille feel warm in January, and Sofhu describes its suede series as suited to autumn and winter. Linen is described as breathable and fresh in hot weather. If you want one fabric for the whole year, a woven jacquard or kilim-pattern cover is a reasonable middle course.
All covers are zippered and removable for washing. Inside is 32 DNS polyurethane foam, which weighs 32 kg per cubic metre. Density measures how much material is in the cushion rather than how hard it is, and denser foam generally keeps its shape longer. The cushions have no springs, and you can ask for a softer or firmer feel.
Arabic sofa set delivery to Romania
A floor sofa is compressed into vacuum-sealed bags for the journey and expands once the bags are opened by hand. Shipping is free.
Romania is in the EU, so goods from Türkiye enter under EU import rules. Duties or taxes may apply depending on the destination, and you can ask Sofhu how your order will be handled before paying anything. The guide to ordering a majlis from Türkiye to the EU sets out the general steps. Buyers in the west of the country may also want Sofhu’s page for Hungary.
How to order
Send each wall length, the position of doors, windows and radiators, a photo of the room, and whether you want floor-level or raised seating. Use the quote form or WhatsApp. Sofhu’s designers can talk the layout through with you on a video call before anything is cut, which is the right moment to settle cushion thickness and where the armrests go. The step-by-step guide to ordering a custom majlis online shows what happens next. Companies fitting out a reception can start with the office majlis guide.
