The short answer

Sofhu makes majlis sofa sets to measure and delivers them to Frankfurt with free shipping from Türkiye. You choose a low floor sofa in the Arab and Turkish manner, a raised upholstered majlis, or a wooden bench set closer to a Moroccan salon, in a single row, L-shape or U-shape. Cushions use 32 kg/m³ high-density foam and the covers unzip for washing.

Anyone looking for a majlis sofa in Frankfurt has usually sat on one already, at a relative’s home or in the country the family comes from. The open question is which kind to order: flat on the floor in the Arab manner, or at bench height like a Moroccan salon. Sofhu makes both to measure in Türkiye and ships them free to your door. The low kind is the Arabic floor sofa: seat mattresses, loose back cushions and armrest blocks at floor level. The raised kind is the Arabic majlis, built as upholstered units at sofa height, or a wooden bench set.

Three seating traditions in one city

Frankfurt is one of Germany’s most international cities, and Turkish, Moroccan and other Arab communities are a visible part of it. The Bahnhofsviertel is known for its Turkish and Middle Eastern shops and restaurants, and the wider Rhine-Main area is home to many families of Moroccan origin. Each of these communities grew up with a different seat.

The Turkish sedir was built into the house under the windows, and the corner farthest from the door was the place of honour. The Moroccan salon lines the walls with banquettes around a table where the meal is shared. The pages on Turkish sedir and şark köşesi and the Moroccan sedari describe each in detail.

Floor level or bench height

The choice comes down to how the room is used. A floor sofa is the relaxed option: children play on it, guests can stretch out, and tea is served at hand height. A bench-height set suits a room where meals are eaten at a table and where older relatives prefer not to lower themselves to the floor.

Sofhu builds raised seating two ways: as the fully upholstered Arabic majlis, and on handmade wooden frames. Its page on wooden bench sets shows them, and the Turkish majlis line uses a carved frame in solid beech. These sit nearer to the height a Moroccan family expects. They are Sofhu designs, not reproductions of a sedari, so send a reference photo. The comparison of floor seating and a raised diwan covers comfort and space on both sides. The ivory diwan floor sofa below shows the low option with thicker cushions.

Fitting an Arabic sofa to a Frankfurt flat

Floor sofas are not freestanding. They lean on a wall, so the walls decide the layout. If your living room has one long clear wall, a single row keeps the rest of the room free. Two clear walls meeting in a corner take an L-shape, the form Turkish families know as the şark köşesi. Three walls take a U-shape for full family gatherings.

Measure each wall at floor level and mark doors, radiators and low window sills. The guide to L-shape and U-shape layouts shows how the corner pieces meet, and majlis sofa sets lists what a complete set includes, from the seat cushions to the rug.

What the cushions are made of

Sofhu fills its seats with 32 kg/m³ high-density foam, written 32 DNS in the Turkish trade. Density tells you how much material is in the cushion, and denser foam generally keeps its height longer. The cushions contain no springs, and on custom orders you can ask for a softer or firmer feel.

Every cover has a zip and comes off. Sofhu states that covers can be machine washed at 30°C. Velvet and kilim-pattern weaves are the usual choices for a winter living room, and linen is the cooler alternative.

Ordering a majlis sofa in Frankfurt

Sofhu has no shop in Frankfurt. Each set is cut to your measurements, vacuum packed and delivered to your address with free shipping. Duty or tax may apply on import depending on the destination, so ask Sofhu before ordering and read ordering a majlis from Türkiye to the EU.

The existing page on the Arabic sofa in Germany covers the country as a whole. German speakers can read about the Sark Köşesi in German, and Sofhu also delivers to Munich and Hamburg. To start, send your wall measurements and a few photos, then get a quote by measurement or continue on WhatsApp.

Questions

Before you order

Can Sofhu make a Moroccan-style salon rather than a floor set?

Sofhu's wooden bench-frame sets and carved Turkish majlis frames raise the seat off the floor, which is the main thing a Moroccan salon asks for. They are not copies of a sedari with its fitted tlamet covers. Send photos of the salon you have in mind and ask which Sofhu frame and fabric come closest.

Is there a Sofhu shop in Frankfurt where I can try the seating?

No. Sofhu is a manufacturer in Türkiye and builds each set to order, so there is no shop or stock in Frankfurt or elsewhere in Germany. The design is agreed from your measurements and photos, with a video call with Sofhu's designers if you want one, and the finished set is delivered to your address.

We host large family visits. Which layout seats the most people?

A U-shape along three walls gives the longest run of seating for the floor area, and the open centre takes a low table or a serving tray. If one wall has a door or a radiator, an L-shape with floor cushions kept for busy days is the usual compromise.

Will a floor sofa mark a rented flat's wooden floor?

Sofhu describes its floor-level design as one that does not scratch floors, since the cushions sit directly on the surface without metal feet. The set leans against the wall rather than being fixed to it, so nothing is drilled and the pieces can be lifted out when you move.

Do I pay customs when a set arrives in Germany?

Shipping is free. Import duty or tax may apply depending on the destination, and Sofhu has not published how this is handled for Germany, so ask before you order. The guide on ordering from Türkiye to the EU explains where to find the official rules.
