A majlis sofa in Munich is rarely bought to fill a room quickly. It is chosen the way a kitchen is chosen: around the walls, the light and the people who will use it. Sofhu makes each set to measure in Türkiye, with the fabric and colours agreed with you first, and delivers it free to your address.
Two products are on offer. The Arabic majlis, shown at the top of this page in taupe velvet, is a raised, fully upholstered set at sofa height with a solid base, fixed backs and arm bolsters. The Arabic floor sofa is a low cushion set at floor level with loose back cushions, armrest blocks and usually an ottoman.
Who sits on a majlis in Munich
Munich has large Turkish, Balkan and Arab communities, and the streets south of the main station form a Turkish and Arab shopping quarter. The city has also long drawn visitors from the Gulf, particularly in summer and often for medical treatment.
That gives the city two kinds of buyer. One is the resident family that wants a proper place to receive guests at Eid, during Ramadan or on an ordinary Sunday. The other is the host: a relative, a landlord or a hotel preparing rooms where Gulf guests will feel at home. Sofhu’s page on the Arabic majlis for hotels is written for the second group.

An Arabic sofa designed with the apartment
In a carefully furnished apartment, the seating has to belong to the room. Three decisions do most of the work.
- Palette. Greys, taupes and creams sit quietly beside oak floors and white walls. A deep burgundy or black set becomes the centre of the room. The guide on how to choose majlis colours walks through both routes.
- Pattern. Kilim-style geometry on a floor sofa reads as traditional. A plain velvet majlis with a single trim line, like the grey L-shape below, reads as contemporary. See modern Arabic sofas for the minimal end of the range.
- Extent. One wall, a corner, or three walls. A set can also be planned to stop short of a balcony door or a built-in cupboard.

Sofhu describes its sets as produced for the project, with designers available by video call. Stitching details and embroidery can be specified too. The custom majlis page lists what can be changed.
Seats for guests of every age
Long visits mean long sittings, so comfort deserves thought before colour does. A floor sofa suits coffee, conversation and children. It is less kind to a guest recovering from an operation or to grandparents with stiff knees, for whom a majlis at sofa height is the easier seat. Mixing heights also works without spoiling the room: a floor sofa along two walls and a raised seat on the third. The article on hosting elderly guests in a majlis shows how to combine them gracefully.

Turkish households often want the corner form they know from home. The page on the Turkish sedir and şark köşesi explains where it comes from and how a floor sofa, like the burgundy L-shape above, relates to it.
Foam that keeps its shape
Sofhu fills its cushions with 32 kg/m³ high-density foam. Density is not hardness. It is the amount of material in the cushion, and denser foam generally holds its height and support longer than light foam that feels firm only when new. The seats have no springs, and a softer or firmer feel can be requested. What foam density is best for floor seating explains the figures.
Covers are zippered and removable, and Sofhu states they can be machine washed at 30°C.
From measurements to your door in Munich
Sofhu is a manufacturer and keeps no shop in Munich. The order runs in this sequence: you send wall measurements and photos, the design and fabric are agreed, the set is made, vacuum packed and shipped free to your address. Duty or tax may apply on import depending on the destination, so ask Sofhu how your order will be handled.
