Sofhu makes raised Arabic majlis sets and low Arabic floor sofas to measure for Manitoba homes and delivers them from Türkiye with free shipping. For a province with extremely cold winters, the sensible specification is 32 kg/m³ high-density foam, which holds its shape better than light foam through months of daily indoor use, and a warm fabric such as velvet or chenille on zippered, washable covers.

When the cold settles over the prairies, hosting moves indoors and stays there. An Arabic majlis in Manitoba earns its keep in exactly those months: one warm room where the whole family and their guests can sit close, drink tea and stay late. Sofhu builds the set in Türkiye to your room’s measurements and delivers it to Manitoba with free shipping.
Sofhu makes two products, and this page shows both. The Arabic floor sofa, like the navy and cream medallion set at the top of the page, is a seat mattress at floor level with loose back cushions and armrest blocks. The Arabic majlis is raised to sofa height on an upholstered base, with tall fixed backs and arm bolsters. The single velvet and chenille units further down, and in the gallery, are majlis pieces.
Winter is the hosting season
Most of Manitoba’s Arab and Muslim families, among them Somali, Eritrean and Syrian households, live in Winnipeg. Winters here are extremely cold, so the gatherings that would spill into a courtyard or garden elsewhere happen in the living room: Ramadan evenings, Eid mornings, a visit after Friday prayers, a new baby, a condolence.
That changes what you ask of the furniture. A set used hard, every day, for half the year needs two things above all: foam that holds its shape and covers that can be washed. If you are planning for a crowd, the iftar and Eid seating plan shows how to arrange a room for a large gathering.
Dense foam, explained plainly
Sofhu fills its cushions with 32 kg/m³ polyurethane foam, known in the Turkish trade as 32 DNS. The figure is a weight: one cubic metre of this foam weighs about 32 kg.
Three points are worth knowing before you compare sellers.
- Density is not firmness. A cushion can be dense and soft, or light and hard. Density describes how much material is inside.
- Density is the number that predicts shape-keeping. The foam industry’s own guidance is that higher-density foam generally retains its original properties better. Low-density foam can feel firm in the first weeks and lose height sooner.
- There are no springs. The support comes from the foam alone, and on a custom order you can ask for a softer or firmer feel.
The longer explanation, with the published figures, is in what foam density is best for floor seating.

Warm fabrics that still wash
For a cold-climate room the usual picks are velvet and chenille. Both have a pile that feels warm when you sit down, and both come in the deep colours that suit a winter evening. Sofhu describes its velvets as durable and easy to clean, and its chenille as having a very low shedding rate. Its suede series is described as a good option for fall and winter.
All of them are made as zippered covers over the foam, so the cover comes off for washing at 30°C. With velvet, Sofhu advises washing cool and not tumble drying.

Colour is a matter of taste, with one practical note: a room that is lit by lamps for much of the winter is kind to burgundy, navy, emerald and charcoal. If you would rather keep things pale, the guide to how to choose majlis colours helps you balance walls, rug and seating.
Fitting an Arabic floor sofa to a Manitoba home
The starting point is usually an ordinary living room like the one below: a sofa, an armchair, a television and a wall of family photos. Turning it into a majlis room is a matter of deciding which walls carry seating.

Measure in this order.
- Pick the walls. Floor sofas are not freestanding and must lean on a wall or another solid surface, and a raised majlis is planned against the walls too.
- Measure each wall at floor level, corner to corner.
- Mark every door, floor vent, baseboard heater and window, with distances from the nearest corner.
- Decide the shape: a single row for one wall, an L-shape for a corner, a U-shape for three walls.
- Photograph the room from the doorway.
The full method is in how to measure a room for a majlis. The Arabic sofa page shows the range of styles you can ask for once the shape is settled.
From Türkiye to a Manitoba doorstep
Sofhu is the manufacturer, so the order comes straight from the maker to you. Cushions are vacuum packed, which shrinks the foam for transport, and sent by cargo carrier with free shipping. On arrival, open the sealed bags by hand, not with a blade, and the foam begins to expand. The steps are described in how a majlis is packed, shipped and set up.
Import duty or tax may apply depending on the destination. Sofhu has not published how this is handled for Canada, so raise it when you ask for your quote. The existing page on Arabic majlises in Canada covers the country as a whole, and the main Arabic majlis page explains what goes into a complete set.
