Many Kuwaiti houses have a diwaniya: a reception room, usually with its own entrance from the street, where the men of the family receive friends and neighbours, often on a fixed evening each week. It is the room where news travels, where candidates call at election time and where Ramadan nights are spent. A majlis sofa for Kuwait City is, in most cases, seating for that room, and it has to stand up to more use than any other furniture in the house.
Sofhu builds diwaniya seating to measure in Türkiye and ships it free.
What a diwaniya asks of its seating
A living room seats a family. A diwaniya seats whoever walks in, and on a busy night that can be a great many people over several hours. Three things follow.
Continuous seating. The family diwaniya is usually a U-shaped hall with the elders at the head. Seating that runs unbroken along three walls gives the most places and keeps everyone in the same conversation.
Marked places. Armrests set along the run divide it into seats, give each guest somewhere to lean and somewhere to put a cup of tea.
Foam that does not flatten. The seats near the head of the room take most of the wear. Sofhu uses 32 DNS foam, which weighs 32 kg per cubic metre and contains no springs. Density is not hardness. It is the amount of material in the cushion, and denser foam generally keeps its height and support longer. You can ask for a softer or firmer feel.
More on the institution itself is in the guide to the Kuwaiti diwaniya.

Majlis sofa Kuwait City: planning the U
A U-shape looks simple and is easy to get slightly wrong. Measure all three walls at floor level and note:
- the street door and the door into the house, with their widths;
- air-conditioning units, sockets and switches at seat or backrest height;
- any column or niche that interrupts a wall;
- where the television or screen will go, if the diwaniya has one.
Each run stands against a wall, so anything that interrupts the wall interrupts the seating. Corners can be closed with a corner seat or left open with an armrest on each side. The L-shape and U-shape layout guide shows both.

Fabrics for extreme heat and dust
Kuwait’s summers are among the hottest in the world, and they are dusty. The room is air-conditioned, but dust still finds its way in every time the street door opens.
That argues for tightly woven covers that can be cleaned easily. Sofhu describes its woven series as non-wrinkling and its velvets as durable and easy to clean, and says its chenille sheds very little. Every cover is zippered, so it can be removed and washed at 30°C when brushing is no longer enough. If the diwaniya is used daily, ask about a darker seat top with lighter backrests. It keeps the room bright and hides wear where it happens.
Ramadan and the ghabga season
Ramadan evenings are the peak of the diwaniya year, with ghabga gatherings running late into the night. If the room is being refurnished for the season, start early: the set is made to order, and timing is confirmed by Sofhu for each job. The iftar and Eid seating plan has layouts for larger numbers, including where loose floor cushions and extra ottomans help.

Delivery to Kuwait City
Sofhu ships free worldwide and delivers to the door. It has no shop or stock in Kuwait, so the set cannot be seen beforehand except in photographs and on a video call with the designers. Cushions arrive vacuum-packed and recover once opened.
Import charges may apply depending on the destination. Ask before ordering, and read ordering a majlis from Türkiye to the Gulf for the general picture. The country overview is on the existing Arabic sofas in Kuwait page.
Other parts of Kuwait
Needs change across the country. Apartment-sized sets are covered on the Hawalli and Salmiya pages, and sadu-pattern floor sofas on the Jahra page.
Sofhu makes two products and names them separately. The raised, upholstered Arabic majlis shown throughout this page has a solid base, tall fixed backs and arm bolsters. The Arabic floor sofa is the low one: seat mattresses at floor level with loose back cushions and a matching ottoman. When your measurements are ready, get a quote by measurement.
