The front room of a Milwaukee bungalow is not large. It has a window to the street, a doorway to the dining room, and perhaps a radiator along one wall. A standard sofa set fills it badly. Seating made to the walls fills it well. That is the case for ordering a majlis sofa in Milwaukee from Sofhu, which builds each set to measure in Türkiye and ships it free.
Bungalows, duplexes and Polish flats
Milwaukee’s typical houses are bungalows and duplexes, including the type known locally as the Polish flat. Their rooms have something in common: they are compact, and their walls are broken up by doors and windows.
That is where made-to-measure seating earns its place. Each run is cut to the length of wall actually available, so the set stops cleanly at the dining-room arch and does not cover the radiator. Every section is planned against a wall.
| Home | Room | Layout to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Bungalow | Front room | L-shape on the two unbroken walls |
| Duplex unit | Living room | Single row or L-shape |
| Polish flat | Spare or lower room | U-shape if three walls are clear |
The room measuring guide shows how to record doors, arches and radiators.

Hosting on the south side
Milwaukee’s Arab community has a strong Palestinian presence. It is centred on the south side, where Middle Eastern groceries and restaurants cluster. The city is also home to Somali and Rohingya refugee communities.
Palestinian and Jordanian families know the guest room as the madafa, a word that means the place of hosting, and coffee is at the centre of it. A madafa in a bungalow is a modest thing: seating along two walls, a rug, a tray. It does not need a large house, only a room where guests are put first. The page on the Jordanian and Palestinian madafa describes the tradition, and majlis etiquette for guests covers the customs of sitting and serving.
Floor sofa or raised majlis
Sofhu makes two kinds of set, and Milwaukee buyers ask about both.
The Arabic floor sofa is the low one: firm seat mattresses near the floor with loose back cushions against the wall. The burgundy set below is one, shown as a single row with its ottoman, rug and floor cushions.

The Arabic majlis is raised to sofa height and fully upholstered, with a solid base, tall fixed backs and arm bolsters. The grey and cream set under the window further up is one. The navy and white set at the top of this page and the U-shape below are a majlis on a white wooden frame. Sofhu also presents wooden bench sets on the cedar Arabic majlis page; cedar there is the name of the range, not a statement about the wood. A raised seat is easier for older guests, and it lifts everyone off a cold floor. Read floor seating versus raised diwan and floor seating for elderly guests before deciding.

Upholstery for a Wisconsin winter
Winters here are cold, and the fabric should be chosen for the months when the room is used most. Three of Sofhu’s ranges suit that.
Velvet is warm to the hand, and Sofhu describes its velvets as durable and easy to clean; see the velvet sofa range. Chenille has a soft, thick texture and, according to Sofhu, sheds very little. Suede is described as a good choice for autumn and winter. The comparison of velvet, linen and jacquard sets out the differences.
Add a rug. On a hardwood floor in January it matters as much as the upholstery, and it can be ordered with the set. The guide on what size rug suits a majlis helps with proportions.
Majlis sofa Milwaukee: what is inside and how to order
The seat cushions are filled with 32 kg/m³ high-density foam, which is called 32 DNS in Türkiye. Density is the weight of one cubic metre of foam, not a measure of hardness. A denser cushion generally stays in shape longer than a light one. There are no springs, and a softer or firmer feel can be requested. Covers are zippered and Sofhu states they wash at 30°C.
Sofhu has no shop in Milwaukee. To order, measure the walls, mark the doors, windows and radiators, take two photos, and send them through the quote by measurement page or on WhatsApp. The set is vacuum packed and shipped free. Duties or taxes may apply on import, so ask Sofhu before ordering. The Arabic sofa hub shows the styles available.
