Sofhu makes majlis sofa sets to measure for Glasgow homes and ships them free from Türkiye. For a tenement front room, measure the bay window face by face so the seating can follow it with angled sections or run straight across. Sets use 32 kg/m³ high-density foam and zipped covers that wash at 30°C, and are built to order.

The front room of a Glasgow sandstone tenement has one feature every furniture plan must answer: the bay window. It brings in the light, and it breaks the wall into three faces that no standard sofa fits. A majlis sofa in Glasgow starts with that bay. Sofhu cuts each set to the measurements you send, in Türkiye, and ships it free.
Sofhu makes two products for a room like this. The Arabic majlis is raised, sofa-height seating in upholstered units with fixed backs and arm bolsters, like the black and cream striped corner at the top of this page. The Arabic floor sofa is a low cushion set at floor level with loose back cushions, an ottoman and floor pillows.
Measuring the bay for a majlis sofa in Glasgow
Wall-hugging seating and a bay window go well together, as long as the backs sit under the sill and leave the glass clear. A floor sofa stays lowest. A majlis has taller backs, so the sill height decides whether it can run into the bay. The measuring takes a little more care than a plain wall.
- Measure each of the three faces of the bay at floor level, where the seat will rest.
- Measure the height from the floor to the window sill.
- Note any radiator, pipe or socket in the bay.
- Measure the side walls from the bay to the corner, and the wall opposite.
- Photograph the bay straight on and from each side.
With those figures Sofhu can propose a run that follows the bay with angled sections, like the angled corner in the photograph at the top of this page, or a straight row across the front of it. The guide on how to measure a room for a majlis has the full method, and the page on L-shape and U-shape majlis layouts compares the arrangements.

The Southside and the city’s newer arrivals
Glasgow has the largest Muslim community in Scotland. Most families are of Pakistani heritage and many live on the Southside, in Pollokshields and Govanhill. More recently, Arab, Kurdish and Syrian families have settled across the city.
These households bring different habits to the same kind of room. A Pakistani family may keep the front room for guests and want seating for a large gathering. A Syrian family knows Arabic floor seating: mattresses, backrests and armrests along the wall. Kurdish families know the diwan, the guest room of tea and conversation. Sofhu’s pages on Syrian and Levantine Arabic seating and the Kurdish diwan describe each, and the Arabic sofa hub shows the sets side by side.
How many people a tenement front room can seat
The answer depends on how many walls you use. A single row along the wall facing the fireplace seats the household. An L-shape adds the guests. A U-shape, with the bay included, turns the room into a full majlis for Eid or a family dinner.
Both products are planned against the walls. A majlis unit carries its own fixed back, while the loose back cushions of a floor sofa need a wall or the bay behind them. Armrests divide the run into places, and with a floor sofa, floor cushions around an ottoman take the overflow, as in the emerald medallion set below. The article on how many people a majlis seats explains how to count places along a wall without guessing.

Covers you can unzip, foam that holds its shape
A room that hosts often needs seating that can be cleaned. Each Sofhu cushion cover closes with a zip and comes off its foam insert.

The close-up shows a zip partly open on a navy chenille cover, with the separate inner lining beneath. Sofhu states the covers can be machine washed at 30°C. Its own fabric cleaning and maintenance tips page gives further advice.
The foam is 32 kg/m³ high-density, with no springs. That figure describes how much material is in the cushion. It does not describe hardness, which you can choose. Denser foam generally keeps its height and support longer than light foam, a real benefit in a seat used daily.
Delivery to Glasgow
Sofhu is a manufacturer and has no premises in Glasgow. Each set is made for one room, vacuum packed in sections and shipped free to the door. Sections are easier to carry up a close than a single sofa. Open the bags by hand and let the foam recover before you arrange the room.
Import duty or tax may apply depending on the destination, so ask Sofhu about your order before you place it.
The majlis in Scotland page covers the country and there is a separate page for Edinburgh. Sofhu’s page on the Arabic sofa in the United Kingdom covers the UK. With the bay measured, get a quote by measurement or send the figures on WhatsApp.
