Sofhu makes Arabic majlis sets and Arabic floor sofas to measure in Türkiye and ships them free to Scotland. A floor sofa has no rigid frame: it is foam cushions in zippered covers, vacuum packed for transport, which suits tenement flats reached by a stair. You send your wall measurements and choose a warm fabric and a single-row, L-shape or U-shape layout.

The first thing to settle about an Arabic majlis in Scotland is the stair. A great many Scottish homes are tenement flats, reached through a shared close and up several flights, and anyone who has tried to turn a corner sofa on a half-landing knows the problem. An Arabic floor sofa avoids it: loose cushions with no rigid frame, vacuum packed for the stair. Sofhu makes both the raised Arabic majlis and the floor sofa, each cut to your walls in Türkiye and shipped free.
Sofhu makes two products, and this page shows both. The Arabic floor sofa is low: a seat mattress near the floor, loose back cushions, armrest blocks, an ottoman and floor pillows. The Arabic majlis is raised to sofa height and fully upholstered, with a solid base, tall fixed backs and arm bolsters, for a formal guest room.
Why floor seating suits a tenement
An Arabic floor sofa has no rigid frame. Each run is a foam seat, back cushions and armrests in zippered covers. Nothing is longer or stiffer than a cushion, and the foam is compressed in sealed bags for the journey.
That matters in three places: the close door, the turn of the stair and the flat’s own narrow hall. Ask Sofhu how your order will be parcelled if access is very tight, and mention the floor you live on. Once inside, open the bags by hand, never with a blade, and give the foam time to recover its shape. The post on how a majlis is packed and delivered describes the unpacking step by step.

The flat above shows the idea at its simplest: an L-shaped floor sofa in the window corner, a rug, and the rest of the floor left free.
Who is buying majlis sofas in Scotland
Scotland’s Muslim population is concentrated in Glasgow, notably in Pollokshields and Govanhill, where the community is largely of Pakistani heritage. Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen have smaller communities.
So the enquiries are mixed. Some families want a raised Arabic majlis for a guest room. Others want floor mattresses and bolsters in the South Asian or Afghan manner; the Afghan toshak page explains that tradition and how Sofhu builds it. Renters often want a single row that will move with them. All of it is the same craft: seating along the wall, made to the room.
The two largest cities have their own guides. Glasgow goes further into the city’s tenement neighbourhoods, and Edinburgh has its own page too. The Arabic sofa in the United Kingdom page covers the rest of Britain.
Layouts for Scottish rooms
The layout depends on what the room is for as much as on its size. A front room kept for guests can give all its walls to seating. A single living room that does everything cannot.
| Room | What usually works |
|---|---|
| Large front room kept for guests | U-shape on three walls |
| Front room that is also the family room | L-shape, leaving one wall for the television |
| Small back room or box room | Single row with floor cushions |
| Open-plan living and kitchen | L-shape in the corner furthest from the cooker |
If the room has a bay window or a press in the wall, measure each face separately and send a photo. Seating can follow a bay or stop either side of it. For compact plans, see a majlis in a small apartment. The majlis sofa set hub shows complete sets by layout.

A single low row, as above, is enough to turn a spare wall into a place to sit, read or pray.
Arabic floor seating and the Scottish climate
Scotland is cool and damp for most of the year, so choose fabric the way you would choose a winter coat.
- Velvet is warm under the hand. Sofhu describes its velvet floor sofas as durable and easy to clean.
- Chenille has a soft, raised weave, and Sofhu notes that it sheds very little. The medallion fabric shown below is a chenille.
- Suede is described by Sofhu as a good choice for autumn and winter.
- Linen is breathable and cool. Keep it for a bright room.

Darker grounds such as olive, navy and anthracite are forgiving in a house where shoes come off at a wet front door. The comparison of velvet, linen and jacquard covers wear and care for each.
Damp deserves a word. In a stone building, a seat pushed hard against a cold outside wall has no air behind it. Lift the cushions occasionally and let the room breathe. The covers unzip; Sofhu states they can be machine washed at 30°C. Refit them only when fully dry.
Inside the seat
Sofhu fills its cushions with 32 kg/m³ high-density foam and uses no springs. The number is a density, the weight of a cubic metre of foam. Denser foam generally keeps its height and support longer than light foam does. It is not a measure of hardness, and you can ask for a softer or firmer feel when you order.
Getting an Arabic majlis delivered to Scotland
Sofhu has no shop or stock in Scotland. Every set is made to order and sent to your address with free shipping. Goods entering Great Britain may attract import VAT or duty depending on the shipment, so ask how your order will be handled before you confirm it. The post on importing a majlis to the UK explains what official sources say.
To begin, measure your walls at floor level, photograph the room and the stair, and get a quote by measurement or message Sofhu on WhatsApp.
