Sofhu builds majlis sofa sets to measure and delivers them free to Birmingham from Türkiye. The city's terraced houses usually have a separate front room, which suits a U-shape or L-shape cut to its walls. Yemeni-style sets with tall backs and armrests suit that room well, filled with 32 kg/m³ high-density foam and finished with zippered, washable covers.

In a Birmingham terrace the front room is often the one nobody sits in on an ordinary Tuesday. It is kept tidy for guests, for Eid, for the evening someone’s uncle arrives without warning. That habit makes it the natural home for a majlis sofa in Birmingham: a room already set aside for receiving people, waiting for furniture that can seat all of them. Sofhu cuts the seating to that room in Türkiye and ships it free.
A city that knows the majlis
Birmingham has one of the largest Muslim populations in the UK. Pakistani-heritage families are a large part of Sparkbrook, Sparkhill, Small Heath and Alum Rock. The city is also reported to host the country’s largest Yemeni community, with roots in Balsall Heath that go back to the middle of the last century.
So nobody here needs the idea explained. What buyers want to know is whether a proper set, the kind they sat on in Sana’a, Aden or Mirpur, can be made to fit a Victorian terrace. It can.
Yemeni majlis sets for Birmingham homes
A Yemeni-style set covers the room. Seats run wall to wall, backs are tall, and armrests divide the places. Sofhu’s Yemeni majlis sets can also include the rug, curtains and ottoman.
Sofhu makes two products for such a room. The Arabic majlis is raised to sofa height, with an upholstered base, tall fixed backs and arm bolsters. The Arabic floor sofa is a low set of floor-level seat cushions with loose backs and a matching ottoman.

The navy star set above is an Arabic floor sofa in one of Sofhu’s own star designs, shown here as a short run with its rug and ottoman. It is the floor-level way to furnish a Yemeni-style room, and the same fabric scales up to a full U-shape. For the history of the room itself, read about the Yemeni diwan and mafraj. For more navy rooms, see blue majlis ideas.
Fitting majlis seating into a terraced front room
A terrace front room usually has three fixed features: a window to the street, a chimney breast on one side wall, and a door near a corner. Work with them.
- Window wall. A seat run under the window gives guests the light behind them. Check the sill height against the seat backs.
- Chimney breast. The alcoves either side take short runs. If the fireplace is blocked up, seating can pass straight across.
- Door corner. Keep it open. A U-shape should end before the door swing.

The light grey and black majlis above shows the result: raised seating on three sides and the rug left clear for trays. Every run stands against a wall, so measure each wall at skirting level and send photos.
Not every household wants the full Yemeni look. For a room the family uses daily, Sofhu makes the same layouts in medallion, striped or plain velvet, like the beige medallion majlis below. The Arabic sofa hub shows the range.

Hosting: Eid, iftar and the weeks between
A front room earns its keep on a few crowded days. Before you order, picture the fullest it will ever be, then check the numbers against the guide on how many people a majlis seats. The iftar and Eid seating plan shows how to add floor cushions and a second room when the house overflows.
Between those days the same room has to survive children. Every cover closes with a zip and comes off. Sofhu states that covers can be machine washed at 30°C. The seats are filled with 32 kg/m³ high-density foam, a density that generally holds its height longer than lighter foam, and they contain no springs.
Ordering a majlis sofa in Birmingham
Sofhu has no shop in Birmingham and holds no stock in the city. Each set is made for one room and delivered to that address, vacuum packed, with free shipping. Import VAT or duty may apply on arrival in Great Britain depending on the shipment, so ask before you confirm.
The England page covers delivery and customs in more depth, and the Arabic sofa in the United Kingdom page covers the UK as a whole. There are also guides for London and Manchester.
Send your wall lengths, the position of the door and window, and a fabric you like. Then get a quote by measurement or message Sofhu on WhatsApp.
