The short answer

For a villa majlis in Al Rayyan, the usual order is a full U-shape set that runs wall to wall on three sides. Sofhu manufactures these in Türkiye from your room measurements, using 32 kg/m³ high-density foam and zippered covers, and can match a second set for the family room. Shipping to Qatar is free.

Al Rayyan is villa country. West of Doha, the municipality is made up of family houses and compounds more than towers, and many Qatari families live here. Many of those houses have a majlis that stands apart from the main building. So a majlis sofa for Al Rayyan usually means a big room and a complete set: three walls of seating, armrests at regular intervals, and often a second set for the family side of the house. Sofhu builds these to measure in Türkiye and ships them free to Qatar.

Start with the full U shape

A detached majlis is a room made for guests, and the seating follows the walls all the way round. The U shape puts everyone in view of everyone else and keeps the centre clear for the coffee and the rug.

The full U-shape of Model 18 seats a family gathering on three sides.

Three decisions shape a U-shape order:

  1. Where the head of the room is. The wall facing the door normally takes the principal seats. Tell us which wall that is so the pattern and the armrests are centred on it.
  2. How the corners are handled. Corners can be filled with a square corner seat or left as a break between two runs. A filled corner gives more places. An open corner is easier to walk past.
  3. How often an armrest falls. Each armrest marks a seat. More armrests give each guest a defined place. Fewer give a longer, plainer line. The guide to how many backrests and armrests you need shows how to count them.

For a rough idea of capacity before you measure, read how many people a majlis seats. The layouts are compared on the L-shape and U-shape majlis page.

Two rooms, one order

Larger Al Rayyan homes often have more than one sitting room: the guest majlis outside and a family room indoors. Ordering both together has a practical advantage. The fabrics can be chosen side by side, so the two rooms relate to each other even if one is formal and the other relaxed.

The black and cream set below is the kind of strong, formal scheme that suits a guest majlis. The same model in a pale velvet reads very differently in a family room.

Details that matter in a large room

Big rooms show their details. A long plain wall of seating can look flat, which is why the base, the armrest and the trim deserve as much thought as the main fabric. On Sofhu sets the base band can carry embroidery, a jacquard pattern or a metallic line, and the armrest can be a round bolster, a shaped block or a tray-top box for cups.

Ask also about foam feel. The seats are filled with 32 kg/m³ foam, and density is what helps a cushion keep its height over years of gatherings. It does not fix how hard the seat is. On a custom order you can ask for a softer or firmer cushion. There are no springs inside.

Ramadan, Eid and the weekly gathering

A family majlis in Qatar works hardest in Ramadan and at Eid, when visits run late and the room fills several times in an evening. Two things help. Removable covers mean a spill is not a disaster: Sofhu states the zippered covers can be machine washed at 30°C. And tray armrests or small tables between seats give every guest somewhere to put a cup. Our iftar and Eid seating plan covers the arrangement for large numbers.

Education City, Al Wajba and smaller homes

Not every home in the municipality is a large villa. Around Education City there are apartments and staff housing where an L shape or a single row is the right size, and the same made-to-measure approach applies. The units separate by hand, so the set moves with you.

Sofhu makes two products for these rooms. The raised, upholstered Arabic majlis shown on this page, with its solid base, fixed backs and arm bolsters, is the formal choice for a detached majlis. The Arabic floor sofa is a low, floor-level cushion set with loose back cushions and an ottoman, and it is often the easier fit for an apartment or a children’s sitting room.

How to order from Al Rayyan

Measure each wall the seating will touch, mark doors, windows and air-conditioning units, and send the figures with photos through get a quote by measurement or WhatsApp. Sofhu replies with a layout and a price for that room. The finished set is vacuum packed and delivered from Türkiye with free shipping. Duties or taxes may apply depending on the destination, so ask before you order.

Questions

Before you order

How long can a single run of seating be?

The run is made of repeating modules, so its length follows your wall, not a catalogue size. Sofhu does not publish standard module lengths. Send the wall measurement and the team will divide it into seats, with armrests placed where you want the breaks to fall.

Can the men's majlis and the women's majlis be ordered in different designs?

Yes. Each room is drawn and quoted separately. Some families keep the same model in two colourways so the house reads as one design. Others choose a formal velvet for the guest majlis and a lighter fabric for the family side. Say which you prefer when you send the measurements.

Our majlis has columns and a recessed niche. Is that a problem?

No, but it must be measured. Give the width and depth of every column and niche and the wall length on either side. A made-to-measure set can stop at a column, step around it or leave a gap for a side table. Photos help the designer see what the numbers mean.

Do the rug and tables come with the set?

Sofhu supplies rugs, kilims, ottomans and curtains as complements to its sets, and the rooms pictured on this page are shown with a rug laid inside the seating. Tell the team which extras you want and they will be included in the quote alongside the seating.

Is there a Sofhu outlet in Al Rayyan?

No. Sofhu has no premises or stock in Qatar. Every set is made in Türkiye for the room it will sit in and delivered to the door. Fabric and colour choices are settled beforehand over WhatsApp or a video call with the design team.
