In Al Wakrah the right majlis sofa is one whose covers come off and wash, because the seafront air is humid. Sofhu makes raised Arabic majlis sets and low floor sofas to your wall measurements in Türkiye, with zippered covers washable at 30°C and 32 kg/m³ foam, plus water-resistant outdoor seating for shaded terraces. Shipping to Qatar is free.

Which fabric should a majlis have when the sea is a short walk away? That is the first question for a majlis sofa in Al Wakrah. The town south of Doha grew up on pearling and fishing, and its restored seafront souq still faces the water. The air is humid for much of the year. Sofhu makes Arabic majlis sets to measure in Türkiye and ships them free to Qatar, and for this coast the advice is simple: choose covers you can take off and wash, and keep outdoor seating in outdoor fabric.
Fabric first: what works by the sea
Every Sofhu cover is zippered and removable, and Sofhu states the indoor covers can be machine washed at 30°C. On a humid coast that matters more than the colour. The fabrics behave differently:
| Fabric | How Sofhu describes it | Where it fits in Al Wakrah |
|---|---|---|
| Linen | Porous, high moisture absorption, refreshing in hot weather | Family rooms and rooms opened to a courtyard |
| Velvet | Durable, easy to clean | Air-conditioned guest majlis |
| Chenille | Very low shedding | Everyday sitting rooms |
| Outdoor fabric | Water-resistant, handles light rain and moisture | Shaded terraces and roofed courtyards |
Sofhu has not published ratings for mould or strong sun, so nobody should promise you a fabric that ignores the climate. Washing, airing and shade do the work. The existing fabrics page lists the series, and velvet vs linen vs jacquard compares how they feel and wear.

A villa majlis or a newer family house
Broadly, Al Wakrah has two kinds of home. Qatari families often live in villas with a majlis for guests, placed near the entrance in the Qatari way. The fast-growing residential districts add newer houses and apartments, many of them lived in by families who moved here for work.
For the villa majlis, a full U shape on three walls is the natural layout, as in the mustard velvet majlis at the top of this page. For a newer house with an open-plan living room, an L shape on the two solid walls is usually the better fit.

A single row is worth considering too. One long run under a window, with an armrest at each end, gives a quiet Arabic jalsa corner without taking over the room. Sofhu makes two products for these rooms. The Arabic majlis is the raised, sofa-height set shown in most photographs here, built as upholstered units with fixed backs and arm bolsters. The Arabic floor sofa is a low cushion set at floor level, like the emerald medallion set in the gallery, and it is easier to rearrange. The Qatari majlis page describes the tradition behind the room.
Coffee within reach: tray armrests
A small detail suits the way a majlis is used here. Some Sofhu majlis models have a tray built into the armrest, so the cup of coffee and the plate of dates sit beside each guest instead of on the floor.

If you like the idea, say so with your measurements. The armrest type changes how a wall length is divided into seats.
Seating for a terrace or courtyard
Evenings outdoors are the reward for living on the coast, at least from autumn to spring. Sofhu makes outdoor sofas and benches on wooden frames with water-resistant fabric. Treat them as seating for covered areas: a roofed courtyard, a pergola, a shaded roof terrace. Bring the cushions in or cover them when the space is not in use, and rinse or wipe off salt and dust.
The outdoor majlis hub shows the options, and balcony and patio majlis ideas deals with smaller spaces.
What sits under the cover
The seats are filled with 32 kg/m³ polyurethane foam, known in the Turkish trade as 32 DNS. Density is the weight of foam in the cushion, and denser foam generally keeps its height and support longer than light foam. The cushions hold no springs or metal, so there is nothing inside to rust in sea air.
