Made-to-measure Arabic floor seating is not something you are likely to find in a Budapest furniture shop. The people who want a majlis sofa in Budapest order it from the maker. Sofhu builds each set to measure in Türkiye, for a flat, a café or a guesthouse, and ships it free to the address you give. It makes two kinds: the low Arabic floor sofa, a seat mattress near the floor with loose back cushions and an ottoman, and the raised Arabic majlis, a sofa-height set with an upholstered base and tall fixed backs. Both appear on this page.
An old acquaintance, not a new arrival
Low cushioned seating has been in this city before. Budapest still carries visible Ottoman-era heritage, from Gül Baba’s tomb to its Turkish baths. The furniture of that period was the sedir, a raised seat built along the wall with cushions against it, and the modern majlis belongs to the same family.
The page on the Turkish sedir and şark köşesi describes that tradition, and furniture words English took from the East follows the words sofa, divan and ottoman along the same route. For the wider family of styles, see Oriental sofa sets.
A floor sofa or majlis sofa for a Budapest home
The city’s Arab and Turkish communities are small, and many of their members first came as university students. Many orders therefore start modestly: one wall of floor sofa in a rented flat, bought by someone who misses how guests are received at home.

A larger family home can take the full U-shaped floor sofa shown above. For a flat, a single row with an ottoman does the job, as in the photo at the top of this page. The seating is modular, so a row can become an L-shape after a move. Floor sofas are not freestanding and need a wall behind them, so measure the clear wall first. A majlis in a small apartment shows how little space a workable set needs.
Seating for cafés, restaurants and guesthouses
In a city with a small diaspora, a good share of demand comes from design and hospitality. A tea room, a shisha lounge, a restaurant with a private corner or a guesthouse with a themed room all use the same product in a harder-working form.
- Each alcove or room is cut to its own wall lengths.
- One fabric and trim can repeat across the venue.
- Covers are zippered and removable, so a stained cover is washed and put back.
- Sofhu offers wholesale orders for small and large businesses.
Sofhu’s existing page on the Arabic jalsah for restaurants covers seating for dining rooms. The guide to floor seating restaurant design covers booths and service routes, and wholesale majlis and Arabic sofas explains how trade enquiries work.
Raised pieces with an Ottoman accent
Not every venue wants guests on the floor. Sofhu’s Arabic majlis is raised to sofa height and fully upholstered, and some pieces stand on a carved base with gilded detail.

A majlis piece like this suits a hotel lobby, a hallway or the head of a formal room. Sofhu’s Turkish majlis line is built on carved solid beech frames with velvet-textured upholstery. For a terrace or courtyard, there are wooden bench sets as well.

Sofhu describes its outdoor fabrics as water-resistant and able to handle light rain. The outdoor majlis hub explains what to plan for a covered terrace.
Foam, covers and care
All seat cushions are filled with 32 kg/m³ high-density foam with no springs. Denser foam generally keeps its height and support longer, which matters most in a venue where the same seat is used many times a day. A softer or firmer feel can be requested.
Covers unzip, and Sofhu states they can be machine washed at 30°C. Velvet covers should not be tumble dried.
Ordering an Arabic sofa in Budapest
Send the wall measurements, photos and a note on fabric and colour. Sofhu prepares a design and a quote for that space, makes the set, vacuum packs it and ships it free. There is no Sofhu shop in Hungary.
Hungary is in the EU, so goods from Türkiye pass through customs, and duty or tax may apply depending on the destination. Ask Sofhu before ordering, and read ordering a majlis from Türkiye to the EU. The country page on the Arabic sofa in Hungary covers the rest of the country. To begin, get a quote by measurement or write on WhatsApp.
