The short answer

Sofhu makes majlis sofa sets to measure for Athens flats and delivers them with free shipping from Türkiye. A single row or L-shape suits most apartment living rooms, and a foldable outdoor mat or bench brings the seating onto the balcony. Seats use 32 kg/m³ high-density foam, and the zippered covers come off for washing after a dusty summer.

Many Athens flats have a living room that opens straight onto a balcony. A majlis sofa in Athens has to work inside that plan: against the solid walls, clear of the balcony, cool enough for July. Sofhu cuts each set to the flat’s measurements in Türkiye and ships it free.

Sofhu makes two products. The Arabic majlis, which most of this page shows, is raised, sofa-height seating in upholstered units with fixed backs and arm bolsters. The Arabic floor sofa is a low cushion set at floor level with loose back cushions, an ottoman and floor pillows.

From an ordinary living room to a place for guests

The change is easier to see than to describe. Below is a living room with two Western sofas, and the same room refitted with a caramel and black majlis along two walls.

Before: an ordinary living room with two fabric sofas and a TV unit.

After: the same room refitted with a wall-to-wall majlis, marble tables and draped curtains.

Wall seating holds more people on the same floor area, because nobody needs a walkway behind a sofa. The centre of the room is left open for a tray, a low table or children. If you would rather keep the sofa you have, read mixing a majlis with Western furniture, and for a direct comparison see majlis vs sectional sofa.

The households behind the demand

Athens has Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Egyptian, Syrian and Afghan communities, concentrated in the central districts around Omonoia, Victoria Square and Kypseli.

These families do not all mean the same thing by floor seating. Afghan households use the toshak, a thinner mattress that also serves as a guest bed; the page on Afghan toshak floor seating covers it. Egyptian families often want an Arabic corner beside the main salon, described under Egyptian Arabic seating. Syrian families often ask for Arabic seating with firm seats and upright backs. Sofhu covers these with its two products: the low floor sofa for toshak-style and corner seating, and the raised majlis, like the khaki green medallion row below, for a formal sitting room.

Arabic seating in an apartment block

Most homes in Athens are flats in apartment blocks, and most have a balcony. Three rules keep a set practical in that kind of room.

  1. Use solid walls only. Both the majlis and the floor sofa are planned against walls, so a run cannot stand in front of a glass door.
  2. Start small. A single row can be extended later into an L-shape, because the seating is modular.
  3. Leave the centre empty. The open rug is what makes a small room feel larger.

The guide to a majlis in a small apartment has worked layouts, and the Arabic sofa hub shows the range of styles and sizes.

Evenings on the balcony

In summer the balcony is the second living room. Sofhu’s outdoor range includes wooden benches with cushions and a foldable, portable mat with a propped backrest, which stores flat when it is not needed. Sofhu describes its outdoor fabrics as water-resistant and able to handle light rain and moisture.

Seen from the foot end, the beige sunbed shows its three padded panels and woven star bands.

The mat in the photo is shown on a lawn, and it works the same way on a balcony floor or a roof terrace. Keep cushions out of direct midday sun when you can, and take them in when you are away. See Sofhu’s outdoor sofas, benches and mats and the article on balcony, patio and rooftop majlis ideas.

Fabric and foam for an Athenian summer

Athens summers are hot and dry. For the indoor set, Sofhu describes its linens as porous with high moisture absorption, which makes them the cooler choice; the linen floor sofa page shows them. Velvet suits a shaded or air-conditioned room.

Seats are filled with 32 kg/m³ high-density foam with no springs. Covers are zippered, and Sofhu states they can be machine washed at 30°C. In a city where windows stay open for months, that is the feature you will use most.

Ordering from Athens

Sofhu has no shop in the city. The set is made to order, vacuum packed and delivered to your door with free shipping. Because the goods enter the EU from Türkiye, duty or tax may apply depending on the destination, so ask Sofhu before ordering. The country page for the Arabic majlis in Greece explains delivery and climate in more detail. Send your measurements and photos, then get a quote by measurement or message Sofhu on WhatsApp.

Questions

Before you order

My living room opens onto the balcony. Where does the seating go?

Keep the wall with the balcony door free and run the seating along the wall opposite or beside it. The seating is planned against solid walls, so a run cannot stand in front of glass doors. An L-shape in the inner corner usually seats the most people without blocking the way out.

Can I keep my existing sofa and add a majlis corner?

Yes. A single row along one wall sits comfortably opposite a Western sofa if the colours are chosen together. Send a photo of the sofa you are keeping. Sofhu can match or contrast the fabric so the corner looks planned rather than added later.

How do I get the parcels up to a fourth-floor flat?

The set arrives vacuum packed, with the foam compressed in sealed bags, so the pieces are easier to carry than finished cushions. Tell Sofhu your floor and whether there is a lift when you request a quote, so door delivery can be confirmed for your building.

Is there somewhere in Athens to see a Sofhu set?

No. Sofhu builds every set to order in Türkiye and has no shop or stock in Athens. You choose from photos of finished rooms and fabric options, with a video call with the designers if you want to talk details through, and the set comes straight to your address.

What should I send to get a price?

The length of each wall the seating will touch, measured at floor level; the position of doors, balcony doors and radiators; two or three photos; and the fabric and colour you have in mind. Sofhu does not publish a price list, because every set is priced for its room.
