Seating along the wall is not a foreign idea in Greece. It furnished houses on both sides of the Aegean for centuries, and the words sofa and divan arrived in Europe by the same road. An Arabic majlis in Greece continues that habit. Sofhu makes each set to measure in neighbouring Türkiye and ships it free.
Two products carry it. The Arabic majlis is raised to sofa height, built as upholstered units with a solid base, tall fixed backs and arm bolsters. The Arabic floor sofa is a low set of floor-level seat cushions with loose backs, armrest blocks and a matching ottoman. Sofhu makes both, and both appear on this page.
Who sits on a majlis in Greece
Two groups of households know this seating best. The first is the recognised Muslim minority of Western Thrace, whose Turkish, Pomak and Roma families have lived in the region for generations. For them a cushioned seat round the room is simply how a guest room is furnished. The second is newer and centred on Athens: Arab, Pakistani, Afghan and Syrian communities who brought their own versions of floor seating with them.
Their vocabularies differ. A Turkish-speaking family thinks of the sedir and the corner set, described on the page about the Turkish sedir and şark köşesi. An Arab family says majlis or jalsa. The Arabic majlis hub explains what a full set contains, and the piece on furniture words English took from the East traces how the names travelled.

The taupe kilim set above is a floor sofa, the low form closest to the Turkish corner set.
Choosing a layout for a flat, a house or a village home
Both the majlis and the floor sofa line the walls, so the room’s walls set the layout.
| Home | Layout that usually fits | Why |
|---|---|---|
| City flat with a balcony door | Single row or L-shape | Leaves the route to the balcony clear |
| Detached house with a spare room | U-shape | Three walls of seating for family gatherings |
| Large living room | L-shape plus floor cushions | Extra places appear only when guests do |
Measure each wall at floor level and mark doors, balcony doors and any fireplace or stove. Send the figures with photos; Sofhu cuts the sections to match.

Majlis and floor sofa fabrics for hot, dry summers
Greek summers are hot and dry, and a room that faces west can be bright until late evening. Fabric and colour should be chosen with that in mind.
- Linen. Sofhu describes its linens as porous, with high moisture absorption and a refreshing effect in hot weather. Its linen floor sofa page lists the series.
- Velvet. Deeper in colour and warmer to sit on. Sofhu describes it as durable and easy to clean. Better for a shaded room or a winter house in the north.
- Colour. Pale blues, creams and greys keep a sunlit room calm. Strong reds and blacks look best where the light is softer.

All covers have zips and come off. Sofhu states that they can be machine washed at 30°C, which is useful in a house where the windows stay open and dust comes in. For a fuller comparison, read velvet vs linen vs jacquard majlis fabric.
Outdoor sets for terraces and courtyards
In a Greek summer much of the day is spent outside, on a terrace, a roof or under a pergola. Sofhu makes outdoor sofas and benches on handmade wooden frames, with fabrics it describes as water-resistant and able to handle light rain and moisture. There is also a foldable, portable outdoor mat for a beach house or a garden.

A few habits make outdoor seating last. Place it under shade where you can. Brush off dust before it is rubbed into the weave. Bring cushions in before the autumn rains. Sofhu’s page on outdoor sofas, benches and mats shows the pieces, the outdoor majlis hub covers planning, and balcony, patio and rooftop majlis ideas deals with small spaces.
What is inside a Sofhu set
Sofhu is the manufacturer, not a reseller. The seats are filled with 32 kg/m³ high-density foam, called 32 DNS in the Turkish trade. Density measures how much material is in the cushion, and denser foam generally keeps its height and support longer. There are no springs. On a custom order you can ask for a softer or firmer seat and choose the cushion thickness.
A full set can include seat cushions, backrests, armrests, throw pillows, an ottoman, a rug and curtains. You can also order the seating alone.
Majlis sofa delivery from Türkiye to Greece
Greece and Türkiye are neighbours. Each set is vacuum packed and sent to your door with free shipping. Open the sealed bags by hand, without a sharp blade, and give the foam time to expand before you arrange the room.
Greece is in the EU and Türkiye is not, so the shipment crosses a customs border. Duty or tax may apply depending on the destination. Sofhu has not published the arrangement, so ask before you order and read ordering a majlis from Türkiye to the EU. Sofhu has no shop or stock in Greece.
How to order
Send three things: wall measurements, photos of the room and a fabric direction. Sofhu replies with a design and a price for your room. For the capital, with its flats and balconies, see the majlis sofa in Athens page. When you are ready, get a quote by measurement or continue on WhatsApp.
