There is no shop in Denmark to visit, so the order is placed from your measurements and photos.
The families who ask for it
Denmark’s Arab, Turkish, Somali and Pakistani communities are concentrated in Copenhagen, especially Nørrebro and the western suburbs, in Aarhus around Gellerup, and in Odense around Vollsmose. Many Palestinian and Lebanese families arrived as refugees in the 1980s, and their children are now furnishing homes of their own.
What each household calls the seating differs, and so does what they expect to receive.
- Palestinian and Lebanese families often ask for low Arabic seating: a seat mattress, back cushions and armrests, in the tradition described under the Jordanian and Palestinian madafa.
- Somali households who want an Arabic-style sitting room with matching cushions can read Somali Arabic seating.
- Turkish and Pakistani families may want one low corner for guests beside an ordinary sofa.
Sofhu makes two products for these rooms. The Arabic majlis is raised, sofa-height seating built as upholstered units with fixed backs and arm bolsters, like the grey set at the top of this page. The Arabic floor sofa is a low cushion set at floor level, like the taupe kilim L below.

Apartment living: plan before you choose a colour
Many of these families live in apartments, and an apartment living room has to do several jobs at once. The plan has to respect the balcony door, the radiator under the window and the dining table.
| Living room | Sensible layout | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Rectangular room with one long clear wall | Single row | Seats guests without blocking the window wall |
| Room with a free corner away from the door | L-shape | The most seats for the least floor |
| Separate guest room in a row house | U-shape | A dedicated majlis for Eid and family visits |
Neither a majlis nor a floor sofa is freestanding. Each run needs a wall or something equally solid behind it, so a wall of floor-to-ceiling glazing cannot take one. Our article on a majlis in a small apartment works through compact rooms in detail.

Does a majlis sit well with Danish taste?
Better than people expect. Danish interiors favour low furniture, clear floor space and restrained colour, and a floor-level set in a plain or tone-on-tone fabric shares all three. Sofhu makes sets in greys, taupes and creams as well as the deep reds and blacks of the classic patterns, so the choice is yours. A grey quilted majlis in an L-shape reads as contemporary. A burgundy kilim floor sofa announces a guest room.
It also helps that the seating is modular. Pieces can be regrouped when the family grows or the flat changes, so a single row bought for a first apartment can become one side of an L in the next home, with matching pieces added to the order later if the fabric is still available. Ask Sofhu about that when you order.
Older relatives sometimes find a floor-level seat hard to rise from. A majlis at sofa height, or one raised section beside a floor sofa, solves that. See hosting elderly guests in a majlis.
Foam, covers and a long indoor season
Sofhu fills its cushions with 32 kg/m³ polyurethane foam. The number is density, meaning one cubic metre weighs about 32 kg. Denser foam generally keeps its height and support longer than light foam. Firmness is a separate matter, and you can ask for a softer or firmer seat. There are no springs.
Danish winters are long, dark and damp, and the living room is used hard for months. Velvet and chenille feel warm, and the existing page on the velvet sofa gives Sofhu’s care advice: wash covers cool, do not tumble dry. Linen is lighter and suits a bright summer room.

Arabic sofa set delivery to Denmark
Sets are vacuum packed to reduce their volume and delivered to your door. Shipping is free. When the packs arrive, open them without a knife and let the foam expand.
Denmark is in the European Union, and Türkiye has a customs union with the EU for industrial goods. That does not tell you how VAT or other charges on your order are handled. Ask Sofhu before you confirm, and read ordering a majlis from Türkiye to the EU. Production and transit times are not published as fixed figures, so ask about timing if you are ordering for Ramadan or Eid.
Your next step
Measure each wall at floor level, note doors, radiators and sockets, take two or three photos, and decide roughly how many people you want to seat. Then get a quote by measurement or send the details on WhatsApp. Readers in the capital will find more specific advice on our page about a majlis sofa in Copenhagen.
