In a Copenhagen flat the living room is rarely large, and the sofa decides how the whole room works. A majlis sofa in Copenhagen has one clear advantage over a standard sectional: it is made for the exact wall it stands against, and it keeps the furniture low so the room feels bigger. Sofhu builds each set in Türkiye from your measurements and delivers it to the city with free shipping.

There are two kinds to choose from. The Arabic floor sofa is cushion seating on the floor, a seat mattress with loose backs, and it is what most of the photos on this page show. The Arabic majlis, pictured at the top, is a raised, fully upholstered set at ordinary sofa height with a fixed back.

Low and plain: where Arabic seating meets Danish taste

Danish homes lean towards low, minimal furniture, pale walls and clear floors. Traditional floor seating shares more of that than its ornate reputation suggests. Take away the gold trim, choose a single colour, and a floor sofa is a long, low run of cushions against the wall.

Sofhu makes both ends of the range. A white or grey set in plain fabric disappears into a Scandinavian room. A deep burgundy or navy set with medallion cushions gives the room a centre and tells guests where to sit. Neither is more correct. The modern Arabic sofa hub collects the quieter designs, and beige, cream and grey majlis ideas shows how pale sets look in real rooms.

Nørrebro flats and houses in the western suburbs

Nørrebro is known as Copenhagen’s most multicultural district, and Nørrebrogade and the streets around it have many Middle Eastern shops, grill bars and bakeries. West of the city, suburbs such as Ishøj, Brøndby and Høje-Taastrup are home to many families with Turkish, Pakistani and Arab roots.

The room you are furnishing shapes the answer more than the neighbourhood does.

  • A compact city apartment usually takes a single row, or a short L if one corner is free. Leave the balcony door and the radiator clear.
  • A larger suburban home with a separate guest room can take a U-shape, the layout that seats the most people for Eid or a family gathering.

Arabic floor sofas are not freestanding and must lean on a solid wall. In a flat, that normally means the long inner wall, not the window side. If you are weighing floor seating against a conventional corner sofa, majlis vs sectional sofa compares them honestly, and a majlis in a small apartment has worked layouts for small rooms.

Getting the fabric right without seeing it in a shop

Sofhu has no premises in Copenhagen, so fabric is chosen at a distance. That is easier than it sounds if you go about it methodically.

What goes into a seat: cover fabric, high-density foam blocks, wadding, thread and the tools to cut them.
  1. Decide on the type first. Velvet and chenille are warm and soft. Linen is cooler and matte. Woven patterns hide wear.
  2. Narrow the colour to two or three options and look at the photos in daylight.
  3. Ask for a video call. Sofhu’s designers go through projects that way.
  4. Send a photo of your own room so the tone can be judged against your floor and walls.

The existing fabrics page lists the series Sofhu uses. Whichever you choose, the covers are zippered and removable, and Sofhu states they can be machine washed at 30°C.

What you are sitting on

The filling is 32 kg/m³ polyurethane foam, written 32 DNS in the Turkish trade, with no springs. Density is the quantity of material in the cushion. It is the figure to ask any seller for, because a light foam can be made to feel firm in the shop and still lose its height sooner. If you want a softer or firmer seat, say so. The custom majlis page lists what else can be changed.

Delivery to a Copenhagen address

The set is vacuum packed in separate packs and delivered to your door. Shipping is free. If your building has no lift, mention the floor and the staircase when you ask for a quote. Open the packs without a blade and give the foam time to recover its shape.

Duties or taxes may apply depending on the destination, and delivery times are confirmed per order. The country page on the Arabic majlis in Denmark covers import questions and fabric for the Danish climate in more detail.

Ask for a quote

Send each wall length at floor level, the position of doors, radiators and windows, and a couple of photos. Add the look you want, plain or patterned. Then get a quote by measurement or message Sofhu on WhatsApp. For inspiration first, browse the single-row majlis gallery or the full Arabic sofa range.

Questions

Before you order

What is the smallest room a majlis makes sense in?

There is no fixed minimum, because the set is cut to the wall you have. A single row along one wall of a small living room gives a proper guest seat and still leaves the floor open. What matters is one clear, solid wall and a door that can swing without hitting the armrest.

Can I get a majlis without gold trim and tassels?

Yes. Colour, fabric and pattern are chosen per order, and Sofhu makes plain and tone-on-tone sets as well as ornate ones. Ask for a single-colour linen, velvet or woven fabric with matching piping and simple square cushions, and send a photo of your room so the tone can be matched to it.

My flat is on the fourth floor with no lift. Is delivery still realistic?

A floor sofa set is one of the easier pieces of furniture to carry upstairs, because it is modular and arrives vacuum packed in separate packs. Tell Sofhu about the stairs when you request your quote and ask how the delivery will be handed over at your building.

Can the set double as a bed for visiting family?

The seat cushions are long, flat and firm, and families across the region use them for overnight guests. Sofhu does not publish standard cushion sizes, so if sleeping matters, say so in your enquiry and ask for the seat length and depth to be planned with that in mind.

Where in Copenhagen can I see Sofhu fabrics?

Nowhere in person. Sofhu has no shop or display in Copenhagen or its suburbs. Fabrics are shown in photos and on video calls with Sofhu's designers. Look at them in daylight, compare them with a cushion or curtain you already own, and ask questions before you settle on a colour.

Are there charges on delivery to Denmark beyond the quote?

Shipping is free. Duties or taxes may apply depending on the destination, and Sofhu has not published how this works for Denmark. Ask before confirming your order. The guide to ordering a majlis from Türkiye to the EU explains the official background.
