Two quite different buyers look for an Arabic majlis in Croatia. One is a family that wants a proper guest room at home. The other runs a villa, a hotel or a beach club on the Adriatic and wants low, generous seating for a terrace. A guest room at home: Zagreb, Rijeka and beyond
Croatia has a long-recognised Muslim community, most of it Bosniak, with major mosques in Zagreb and Rijeka. For these families low seating is familiar rather than exotic. The divan and the sećija belong to the wider Balkan and Ottoman way of furnishing a room, with cushions along the wall and the middle left open for guests.

Layout and the walls you have
Arabic floor sofas are not freestanding, and a majlis is built to line the walls as well. Either one needs a wall or something equally solid behind it, so the plan starts with the walls.
- A single row suits an apartment living room that also holds a dining table.
- An L-shape uses a corner and keeps a balcony door clear.
- A U-shape turns a spare room into a dedicated guest room.

Foam and fabric indoors
Inside every cushion is 32 kg/m³ polyurethane foam, with no springs. Density tells you how much material is there. It is separate from firmness, and you can ask for a softer or firmer seat.
For a house on the coast, linen is the sensible indoor fabric. Sofhu describes its linens as breathable, with a porous structure that feels fresh in hot weather. Inland, where winters are colder, velvet or chenille gives a warmer seat. Covers come off and wash at 30°C either way.
