Every photo in this gallery shows one of two outdoor products: a wooden bench set or a folding Arabic sunbed. Neither is the raised, upholstered Arabic majlis or the low cushion Arabic floor sofa that Sofhu makes for indoor rooms, and none of those indoor sets appear here.

The sets in most of these photos are wooden benches with red kilim-pattern cushions, arranged on a deck beneath a pergola. The folding Arabic sunbed

The other product here is the Arabic sunbed: a padded floor mat with a backrest propped on a folding stand and an armrest block. It folds flat and is portable, so it goes to the garden, the park or a desert evening and comes home again. The photos show it in beige and in maroon, on lawns and in the dunes beside the coffee pot.

Rain, sun and storage

Sofhu describes its outdoor fabric as water-resistant. It copes with light rain and moisture, and spills wipe away. That is not the same as leaving cushions out all year. Beneath a roof or pergola, as in these photos, they are well protected. On open ground, bring them in when heavy weather is due, and ask Sofhu about your climate before ordering.

Sizing an outdoor set

Measure the deck or balcony, note where the door opens and where the sun falls in the afternoon, and send it through get a quote. Before you order

Can the cushions stay outside through winter?

The fabric is described as water-resistant and able to handle light rain and moisture. Whether a set can stay out through frost, snow or long wet spells is something to ask Sofhu for your location before you order. As with any outdoor cushion, storing it dry in the cold months lengthens its life.

What wood are the benches made from?

The frames are handmade in wood. The species is not published here, so if it matters for your climate, or you want a particular colour or finish, ask when you request a quote and Sofhu will tell you what the frame for your order would be made of.

Is the Arabic sunbed for one person?

The sunbed in these photos is a single lounger: one padded mat, one propped backrest and an armrest block. For a group, several can be set side by side on a rug, which is how many families use them on a picnic or at a camp, or you can choose a bench set instead.

Can I put an indoor majlis or floor sofa set on a covered balcony?

Indoor fabrics such as velvet are not described as water-resistant, and a balcony gets damp air and driven rain even under a roof. Tell us the set is for a balcony or terrace when you ask for a quote, so that it is made in a fabric suited to the conditions.

Can the bench cushions be made in a colour other than red?

Yes. Colour and pattern are chosen per order, and the red kilim-pattern cushions shown are one option. Say which colour you have in mind, and we will confirm which of the fabrics suited to outdoor use it is available in.

Are these sets used by cafes and shisha lounges?

Yes. Sofhu lists cafes, shisha cafes, restaurants and hotels among the places its sets are used, and takes wholesale enquiries for larger orders. For a commercial terrace, send a plan of the area with your enquiry so the benches can be sized to the space and to your walkways.
