The short answer

For a majlis sofa in Antwerp, Sofhu builds the set to your wall measurements in Türkiye and delivers it free to your door. You can order a raised, upholstered Arabic majlis, closer to the height of a Moroccan sedari, or a low Arabic floor sofa. Cushions are filled with 32 kg/m³ foam and the zippered covers come off for washing.

Should the new salon sit at bench height, the way a Moroccan salon does, or on the floor in the Arabic way? That is the first decision behind most searches for a majlis sofa in Antwerp, and it is worth settling before you look at a single fabric. Sofhu makes both kinds to order in Türkiye and ships them free to Antwerp addresses. The raised one is the Arabic majlis, a fully upholstered set with a solid base and fixed back. The low one is the Arabic floor sofa, a set of floor cushions with loose backs.

Raised or floor-level: choosing for an Antwerp household

Antwerp has large Moroccan and Turkish communities, most visible in districts such as Borgerhout. Neither tradition starts on the floor. The Moroccan salon is built on the sedari, a wooden banquette with a mattress and fitted cover, arranged wall to wall around a table. The Turkish sedir is a raised seat along the wall under the windows.

Sofhu’s wooden bench-frame sets, described on the existing page about the wooden-frame Arabic majlis, sit nearest to what a Moroccan or Turkish family grew up with, and the upholstered majlis gives a raised seat without a visible frame. Floor sofas rest directly on the floor, like the low ivory and gold set below, and can be ordered with different cushion thicknesses. The comparison of floor seating and a raised diwan goes through the trade-offs, and the background is on our pages about the Moroccan sedari and the Turkish sedir.

Planning seating in a narrow terraced house

Much of Antwerp’s housing is terraced, with a narrow street frontage and rooms that run front to back. The long party wall is the asset. It is usually unbroken, and it is solid, which matters because Arabic floor sofas are not freestanding and must lean on something hard.

Three points make the plan work:

  • Put the longest run on the party wall and keep the route from the hallway door clear.
  • Turn the corner under the front window only if the sill is high enough for the back cushions.
  • Leave the chimney breast or radiator out of the run and tell Sofhu its width, so the cushions stop cleanly on either side.

Because the set is made to measure, the seating can end exactly at the door frame. A fixed-size sofa in a narrow room nearly always ends too early or too late.

What goes inside, and what goes over it

A salon in daily use is judged after a few years, not on delivery day. Sofhu fills its cushions with 32 kg/m³ polyurethane foam, with no springs. Density is the amount of material in the foam. In general, denser foam holds its height and support better than the light foam found in cheap floor cushions, which can feel firm at first. Firmness is a separate choice, and you can ask for a softer or harder seat.

Covers are zippered, removable and washable at 30°C. Velvet and chenille give the rich salon look many Moroccan and Turkish families want. Woven kilim patterns are more forgiving in a house with small children.

Arabic sofa delivery to Antwerp

Sofhu has no shop in Antwerp. The set is built for your room, vacuum packed and delivered to your door, and shipping is free. Vacuum packing reduces the bulk of the cushions, which is welcome in a house with a tight staircase. Duties or taxes may apply depending on the destination, so ask Sofhu how your order will be handled.

Questions

Before you order

Does Sofhu make a Moroccan sedari?

Sofhu makes Arabic seating, not a carved Moroccan sedari with its own mattress and fitted cover. What it can offer a Moroccan household is the same idea of wall-to-wall seating made for the room, as a wooden bench set, as a raised upholstered majlis, or as a floor sofa at floor level. Describe the salon you have in mind and ask for a quote.

My living room is long and narrow. Will a U-shape leave any floor?

Often it will not, and an honest plan says so. In a narrow room two facing runs eat the middle. A single long run on the unbroken wall, or an L that turns under the front window, usually seats nearly as many people and keeps a clear path from the door to the back of the house.

Can I see the fabrics in Antwerp before deciding?

Sofhu has no shop or display in Antwerp or elsewhere in Belgium. Fabrics are chosen from photos and by video call with Sofhu's designers. If colour accuracy matters, look at the photos in daylight on more than one screen and ask whether anything further can be arranged for your order.

Are the covers practical for a room where we eat?

They are designed for it. Every cover has a zip and comes off, and Sofhu states that the covers can be machine washed at 30°C. In a salon where tea, tagine and children share the same seat, a patterned or darker fabric also hides the days between washes better than plain cream.

Do I pay import charges on a delivery to Belgium?

The shipping itself is free. Duties or taxes may apply depending on the destination, and Sofhu has not published how this works for Belgium. Ask before you confirm the order so there are no surprises, and see the guide on ordering a majlis from Türkiye to the EU.
