An engagement is announced, relatives are coming from Morocco or Türkiye, and the salon suddenly has to seat everyone at once. That is the moment many families start looking for a majlis sofa in Brussels. Sofhu makes wall-to-wall seating to order in Türkiye, cut to the room, and delivers it to Brussels free of shipping charges.
Two products carry that name loosely, and Sofhu makes both. The Arabic majlis is raised, sofa-height seating in upholstered units with fixed backs and arm bolsters. The Arabic floor sofa is a low cushion set at floor level, with loose back cushions and an ottoman.
A city that already knows the salon
Brussels has one of the largest Moroccan-origin populations in Western Europe, concentrated in Molenbeek, Anderlecht, Schaerbeek and around the Gare du Midi. There is also a Turkish community centred on Schaerbeek and Saint-Josse. In these homes the reception room is not an afterthought. For Moroccan families it is the salon marocain, built on the sedari, and it is often the most carefully furnished room in the house.
So nobody here needs the idea explained, and the city has shops that sell it. What Sofhu adds is narrower and more practical: made-to-measure sizing, a stated foam density, a broad fabric range, and the Gulf-style majlis and Arabic floor sofas that a salon shop may not carry. Our pages on the Moroccan sedari and the Turkish sedir describe the two traditions in their own terms. In French, see le salon marocain.
How Sofhu’s sets relate to a sedari
A sedari is a raised wooden banquette. Sofhu makes three kinds of seating, and it helps to know which one you are asking for.
- Arabic majlis. Upholstered units on a solid raised base, at sofa height, with tall fixed backs and arm bolsters. The closest in posture to a Moroccan salon or a Turkish sedir.
- Wooden bench set. Seat and back cushions on a wooden frame, indoors or outdoors.
- Arabic floor sofa. A seat mattress on the floor, loose back cushions against the wall, armrest blocks between sitters.
The two majlis units below show the raised build: a champagne damask seat on a walnut base, and a camel velvet one on a carved dark wood base.

None of these is a copy of a carved Moroccan sedari with its fitted tlamet covers, and it would be wrong to sell it as one. What they share with it is the principle that the seating follows the walls of the room exactly. The custom majlis page explains what can be changed on an order.
Foam and fabric: where a salon is won or lost
A salon that looked splendid on the day it arrived can sag in the seats a few years later. The cause is nearly always light foam. Sofhu uses 32 kg/m³ polyurethane foam, known in the Turkish trade as 32 DNS, with no springs. Density measures how much material is in the cushion, and denser foam generally keeps its shape longer. How hard the seat feels is a separate setting, which you can ask to have softer or firmer.
For fabric, Sofhu lists velvets, chenille, linen, woven and knitted series on its existing fabrics page. All covers are zippered and removable. If you are torn between a jacquard that looks formal and something easier to live with, read velvet, linen and jacquard compared.

The beige medallion majlis on the left is the raised, upholstered build. The grey and gold kilim set beside it is a floor sofa, low to the ground with loose cushions.
Tall houses, steep stairs
The typical Brussels townhouse is tall and narrow, and the best room is often up a steep flight. This is where a floor sofa has a clear advantage. The cushions arrive vacuum packed in separate packs. You carry them up, cut nothing with a blade, open the bags and let the foam recover. The article on how a majlis is packed and delivered walks through the day.
Measure with the house in mind. Bay windows, marble fireplaces and double doors between front and back rooms all interrupt a wall. Since the back cushions of a floor sofa lean on the wall, every run needs solid support behind it, and a set of glazed doors is not that.
A small terrace or front porch
For a courtyard or roof terrace, Sofhu makes outdoor benches with water-resistant fabric that handles light rain and moisture. Brussels weather being what it is, treat the cushions as something you bring inside rather than leave out all season.

Ordering an Arabic sofa from Brussels
Sofhu has no shop in Brussels and holds no stock in Belgium. The steps are short:
- Measure each wall at floor level and note doors, radiators and fireplaces.
- Photograph the room, and the stairs if the room is upstairs.
- Choose majlis, floor sofa or bench set, then a layout and one or two fabrics.
- Get a quote by measurement or send it all on WhatsApp.
Shipping is free. Duties or taxes may apply depending on the destination, so ask Sofhu first. The existing page on Arabic sofas in Belgium covers the country as a whole, families in Flanders can read about a majlis sofa in Antwerp, and the Arabic sofa overview compares every style we make.
