On this page
The first question for a Queensland home is not about colour. It is whether foam seating can cope with the humidity. It can, if the covers come off and the fabric breathes. Sofhu makes each Arabic majlis for Queensland to order in Türkiye, with zippered washable covers and 32 kg/m³ foam, and ships it free to the door.
Two products go by that name in everyday speech, and Sofhu makes both. The Arabic majlis proper is a raised, fully upholstered set at sofa height with a fixed back, and it is what the indoor photos on this page show. The Arabic floor sofa is the low one: a seat mattress on the floor with loose back cushions and armrests.
Choosing covers for a subtropical climate
Queensland’s subtropical climate keeps the air warm and damp for much of the year. Thick, closed fabrics hold that moisture. Open, breathable ones let it go.
| Where the set will live | Fabric to consider | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Family room with ceiling fans | Linen | Sofhu describes it as moisture absorbing and refreshing in hot weather |
| Air-conditioned guest room | Velvet or chenille | Formal look; the cooling handles the warmth of the pile |
| Covered veranda or deck | Outdoor range | Water-resistant fabric; spills wipe away |
| Children’s playroom | Flat woven | Sofhu describes its woven series as non-wrinkling, and the covers are easy to wash |
Whatever the fabric, the covers are zippered and removable, and Sofhu states they can be machine washed at 30°C. Sofhu does not publish a mould-resistance rating, so the honest advice is about routine: wash the covers after a busy season, dry them right through before refitting, and give the room air. The existing linen floor sofa page shows that fabric in use, and our guide to velvet, linen and jacquard weighs up the three main choices.

Where Queensland families gather
Much of the state’s Muslim community lives on Brisbane’s southside, around Kuraby and Logan, and Brisbane has one of the oldest mosques in Australia. A second cluster lives on the Gold Coast. These are families from many backgrounds, and the majlis they want reflects that: a firm Gulf-style set in one house, a softer mattress-style room in the next.
The occasions are the same everywhere. Eid morning, a Ramadan iftar that fills the house, a visit from grandparents who will stay for weeks. A guest room that seats a crowd during the day and takes spare bedding at night earns its space.
A majlis for the veranda
Queensland houses are built for living half outdoors, and a covered veranda is often the coolest place to sit in the evening. That makes outdoor seating more relevant here than in most places Sofhu ships to.
Sofhu’s outdoor range uses water-resistant fabric, which it says can handle light rain and moisture. It also makes a foldable, portable outdoor mat. The folding sunbed in the photo below opens flat on a lawn and packs away again afterwards.

Two cautions. Water resistant is not waterproof, so keep the seating under a roof. And Sofhu has not published a sun-resistance rating for its outdoor fabric, so ask which colours it recommends for a west-facing deck. The outdoor majlis page and our balcony and patio majlis ideas give layouts, and the existing outdoor sofas and mats page shows the range.
Arabic seating in an open-plan room
Many Queensland living rooms run straight into the kitchen and out to the deck. That is a good shape for a majlis, with one condition: the seating follows the walls. A majlis is built to line them, and floor sofas are not freestanding, so every section needs a wall or something solid behind it.
In an open-plan room, run the seating along the solid walls and leave the path to the kitchen and the sliding doors clear, as in the photo below. A U-shape suits a separate lounge with three free walls. An L-shape under a wide window keeps the glass clear because the backrests sit low.

If you would rather keep your existing sofa and add low seating beside it, see mixing a majlis with Western furniture. The majlis sofa set page lists what a complete set includes, and the Arabic floor sofa page explains the parts.
What the 32 kg/m³ figure tells you
The seat foam has a density of 32 kg/m³, written 32 DNS in Türkiye. It means a cubic metre of the foam weighs about 32 kg. More material in the cushion generally means it holds its shape and support longer. Firmness is a separate matter, and you can ask for a softer or firmer seat on a custom order. The cushions have no springs.
Majlis sofa delivery to Queensland
Sofhu vacuum packs the finished set and sends it by cargo carrier from Türkiye. Shipping is free worldwide, including Queensland addresses from the Gold Coast to the far north. If you live a long way from a major city, give the full address when you ask for your quote. Open the sealed bags by hand, without a blade, and let the foam rise.
Taxes or duties may apply depending on the destination. Ask Sofhu before you order, and read importing a majlis to Australia. The existing country page, Arabic sofas in Australia, has the general overview.
Ask for a quote
Measure each wall at floor level, note the doors and windows, photograph the room, and say whether the set is for indoors or a covered outdoor area. Then get a quote by measurement or send everything on WhatsApp.
