Sofhu makes Arabic majlis sets to measure and ships them free from Türkiye to Ireland. Each set is cut to your wall measurements, often for the separate front room of a semi-detached house, in a single row, L-shape or U-shape. Seats use 32 kg/m³ high-density foam, and the zippered covers come off for washing, which suits a damp climate.

Irish houses already have a room for visitors. The front room, kept tidy for guests and called the good room in many families, is close in purpose to a majlis. An Arabic majlis in Ireland usually goes exactly there. Sofhu makes the seating to measure in Türkiye and ships it free.
The good room and the guest room are the same idea
A majlis is a room set aside for receiving people, with seating round the walls and the centre left open. The Irish good room is set aside for the same purpose and furnished differently. Many semi-detached houses have one at the front, separate from the kitchen and family room at the back.
That separation is useful. Guests can be received while family life carries on behind a closed door, which is how a majlis works in the Gulf and a marbouaa works in Libya. Replacing a three-piece suite with seating along three walls lets the same room hold noticeably more people. The Arabic majlis hub explains what a complete set includes.

Sofhu makes two products for such a room. An Arabic majlis, like the dusty blue set above, is raised to sofa height: upholstered units with a solid base, tall fixed backs and arm bolsters. An Arabic floor sofa is the low alternative: a seat mattress at floor level with loose back cushions, armrest blocks and usually a matching ottoman.
Who is furnishing a majlis in Ireland
Ireland’s Muslim community has grown quickly since the 1990s and is centred on Dublin. It includes Pakistani families, Arab families from countries such as Libya, Egypt, Sudan and Syria, and students and medical staff from across the Middle East.
Each of these groups has its own reference point, and it is worth naming yours when you ask for a quote.
| Background | The room at home | Page to read |
|---|---|---|
| Libyan | Marbouaa, the men’s guest room | Libyan marbouaa |
| Egyptian | Qa’da arabi, an Arabic corner | Egyptian Arabic seating |
| Sudanese | Seating on the angareb, a raised bed-bench | Sudanese salon and diwan seating |
| Gulf | Majlis with seating round the walls | Arabic majlis |
One honest note: traditional Sudanese seating is the angareb, a rope-strung bed at bench height, not a floor mattress. Sudanese families who order a floor sofa are choosing a different way of sitting, and those who prefer height can ask about a raised majlis or Sofhu’s wooden-frame sets.
Layouts for semi-detached houses and apartments
A majlis and a floor sofa both line the walls, so count your clear walls before choosing a shape.
- Three clear walls in a front room take a U-shape, the classic guest layout.
- Two clear walls take an L-shape, leaving the fireplace or the window wall free.
- One clear wall in an apartment or a box room takes a single row, with floor cushions for extra guests.

Measure each wall at floor level, and mark the door swing, radiators and any fireplace. Send photos with the figures.
Covers and care in a damp climate
Ireland is damp, and the climate should shape the fabric choice more than fashion does.
All Sofhu covers have zips and come off the foam. Sofhu states that covers can be machine washed at 30°C and that velvet covers should not be tumble dried. In practice that means choosing a day when the covers can dry fully indoors before they go back on.
Velvet feels warm on a grey afternoon, and Sofhu describes it as durable and easy to clean. A flat weave or linen dries sooner after washing. Light colours brighten a north-facing room, and a patterned fabric hides the marks of daily use.

The cream set above is one of Sofhu’s floor sofas, with burgundy sadu motifs on a pale ground and a matching ottoman and rug.
Sofhu’s own fabric cleaning and maintenance tips cover routine care, and the guide to removing coffee, tea, saffron and henna stains deals with accidents.
What the seats are filled with
Sofhu fills its cushions with 32 kg/m³ high-density foam, known as 32 DNS in the Turkish trade. Density is the amount of material in the cushion, not its hardness, and denser foam generally keeps its height and support longer. The cushions have no springs. On a custom order you can ask for a softer or firmer seat.
Arabic sofa set delivery to Ireland
Sofhu is the manufacturer and sells direct. It has no shop in Ireland, so nothing is collected locally: the set is made for your room, vacuum packed and shipped free to your door. Open the sealed bags by hand and let the foam recover its shape before you arrange the room.
Goods from Türkiye enter the EU through customs. Duty or tax may apply depending on the destination, and Sofhu has not published the arrangement for Ireland, so ask before you order. The guide on ordering a majlis from Türkiye to the EU explains where the official rules are found.
Before Ramadan, plan early
The front room is busiest in Ramadan and at Eid, when it can fill night after night. A set wanted for the season needs measuring, designing and making first, so start the conversation well ahead. The iftar and Eid seating plan shows how to arrange a room for a crowd.
