Sterling Heights homes are large enough for a dedicated guest room, and a majlis sofa in a full U-shape makes the most of one. Sofhu manufactures Arabic and Iraqi-style seating in Türkiye to your room's measurements, filled with 32 kg/m³ high-density foam, with a rug, ottoman and curtains if you want them, and ships it free to Michigan.

When the whole family comes over after a christening, a graduation or a holiday meal, the question in a Sterling Heights house is not whether there is a room for them. It is whether there are enough places to sit. A majlis sofa in Sterling Heights answers that better than any combination of couches, because seating runs along the walls and people sit shoulder to shoulder with the middle of the room open. Sofhu makes that seating in two forms: the raised, upholstered Arabic majlis for a formal guest room, and the low Arabic floor sofa of floor cushions.
A city of large gatherings
Sterling Heights, in Macomb County, is a centre of Metro Detroit’s Chaldean community, Iraqi Christians, and many more recent arrivals from Iraq have settled here too. Chaldean churches, banquet halls and Iraqi restaurants and bakeries are part of everyday life here.
Hospitality on that scale carries into the home. In Iraq the reception room is traditionally expected to be the largest in the house, and families who keep that habit want a guest room that can take a crowd. Iraqi-style floor sofas and the more formal raised majlis both make sense here. The background is in Sofhu’s guide to the Iraqi diwaniya and mudhif, and the wider state is on the Michigan page.
Room for a full U-shape
Homes here are larger suburban ranches and colonials, and many have a room that can be given over entirely to guests. That is the situation a U-shape was made for: seating on three walls, entrance on the fourth.

A U gives the longest seating run for a given room and lets everyone see everyone else. The L-shape and U-shape guide explains how to handle corners and openings, and how many people a majlis seats helps you work back from your guest list to wall length.
Planning a dedicated guest room
A room used only for visitors can be planned more boldly than a family room. Points to settle before you ask for a quote:
- The main wall. Decide which wall faces the door. The centre run goes there.
- Corners. Say whether you want the corners filled with seating or left for a side table or lamp.
- Armrests. Fewer armrests seat more people; more armrests give each guest a defined place.
- Centre. A rug with an ottoman or low tables for tea and sweets. Sofhu can make the rug and ottoman to match.
- Curtains. These can be ordered with the set so the room reads as one design.
The majlis sofa set page lists everything a complete set can include.

If older relatives will use the room, plan for them. A raised majlis or a firmer seat is easier to rise from, and the article on hosting elderly guests in a majlis shows how to mix seat heights without spoiling the look.
Colour and fabric for a formal room
The hero image on this page shows a teal velvet majlis in a U around a cream rug, with ivory medallion cushions and a striped base. Deep colours like this hold a large room together. For more examples see emerald green and burgundy majlis ideas.
Velvet and chenille are the usual choices for a guest room. Sofhu describes its velvet as durable and easy to clean, and its chenille as shedding very little. Every cover is zippered and can be removed for a machine wash at 30 degrees.

Inside is 32 kg/m³ high-density polyurethane foam, with no springs. A guest room set may be used hard for one evening and then left for a week, and denser foam generally recovers and keeps its height better than light foam under that kind of use.
Banquet halls and events
Not every set is for a home. A lounge corner in a hall, a bridal seating area or a private dining room can be furnished the same way. The majlis for events page covers what to consider for seating that is moved and reset often.
Ordering and delivery
Sofhu is the manufacturer and has no shop in Michigan. You send the room’s measurements, a photo and your preferred layout, agree the fabric and details by WhatsApp or video call, and the set is made to order. It ships free, vacuum packed in separate parcels that are easy to carry through a doorway. Duties or taxes may apply depending on the destination; ask first.
