The short answer

Casablanca homes already have a salon marocain made by local upholsterers, so a majlis sofa here is a design-led second room. Sofhu makes Gulf-style majlis sets, raised and fully upholstered, to your wall measurements in Türkiye, with 32 kg/m³ foam and zippered washable covers that suit the Atlantic humidity, and ships it free. There is no local shop; you order by measurement and it is delivered.

Picture a villa where the formal salon is already furnished: sedari on three walls, a round table, curtains matched to the cushions. The owners want one more room, more relaxed, in the style they saw in the Gulf. That is the usual story behind a majlis sofa in Casablanca. Sofhu makes this seating to order in Türkiye, cut to your walls, and ships it free.

A majlis sofa in Casablanca is a choice of style

Casablanca is Morocco’s largest city and its commercial capital, and most homes in it have a salon marocain made by a local upholsterer. Few households here lack a place to seat guests. Imported Gulf-style seating is a niche, chosen for its look.

That shapes what is worth ordering. The Moroccan salon stays the room for meals and formal visits. The majlis becomes the second room: a family den, a television room, a tea corner, a lounge. The page on the Moroccan sedari and salon marocain explains the local tradition, and the country page for Morocco sets the two side by side.

Rooms and businesses it suits

  • Villa family room. A U-shape on three walls for evenings when the salon is kept for guests.
  • Apartment corner. An L-shape along two walls, which can sit comfortably with a Western sofa. See mixing a majlis with Western furniture.
  • Lounges and cafés. A Gulf theme carried through the seating. Sofhu’s page on a majlis for cafés shows examples.
  • Hotels. A private lounge or suite corner, as on the majlis for hotels page.

Design direction matters in a city with this much interior work going on. If ornate medallions are too much beside your salon, plainer sets in grey, cream or blue sit quietly in a contemporary house. The modern Arabic sofa hub gathers those designs, and the Arabic sofa hub shows the full range.

How the pieces go together

A Sofhu majlis is built in units. Each has a solid upholstered base at sofa height, a tall fixed back and arm bolsters that divide the run into places. Where two runs meet, a corner piece closes the angle.

The corner wedge fills the angle between two seat runs so the L shape reads as one piece.

The layout is planned against the walls, so every run needs a wall or something solid behind it. A room with glass on two sides takes less seating than its floor area suggests, so measure walls, not floor.

Sofhu also makes a second, different product. The Arabic floor sofa is a low set of seat mattresses, loose back cushions and armrest blocks at floor level, easy to move around. The Arabic majlis shown on this page is the raised, structured one. Say which you saw in the Gulf when you write.

Atlantic humidity and what it asks of fabric

Casablanca sits on the Atlantic, and the air is humid for much of the year. Two things follow.

First, covers should come off. Sofhu’s are zippered and removable, and it states they can be machine washed at 30°C. Washing them and drying them completely before putting them back keeps a room fresh in a damp climate.

Second, breathable fabric earns its place. Linen and flat woven covers feel drier to sit on than deep pile. Velvet is still a sound choice for an air-conditioned lounge or a room used mainly in the evening, and Sofhu describes its velvet as durable and easy to clean.

The seat filling is 32 kg/m³ polyurethane foam without springs. That figure is density, the weight of material in the cushion. Denser foam generally keeps its height and support longer, and you can ask for a softer or firmer feel.

Working with a manufacturer in Türkiye

A local upholsterer comes to the house. Sofhu cannot, and has no shop or stock in Morocco. What it offers instead is a set built for your exact walls from your measurements, with the layout agreed by video call or WhatsApp. The custom majlis hub lists what can be specified, and how to measure a room for a majlis shows how to take the numbers so the set fits first time.

Delivery to Casablanca

Sets are vacuum packed and sent by cargo carrier with free shipping. How the order reaches your address, and when, is confirmed by Sofhu for each order. Duties or taxes may apply depending on the destination, so ask before you approve the design.

When you are ready, get a quote by measurement or send your sketch and photos on WhatsApp. French speakers can read about made-to-measure oriental salons in French.

Questions

Before you order

Why order from abroad when Casablanca has so many upholsterers?

For a salon marocain you should not. A local workshop knows the sedari and can visit your home. Sofhu is for the buyer who wants a Gulf-style majlis specifically: its patterns, its fixed backs and trim, its armrests between sitters. That is what Sofhu manufactures, in hundreds of designs.

Nobody will visit to measure. How do I avoid mistakes?

Measure each wall twice at floor level, since skirting and tiles can change the figure, and note doors, columns and sockets. Photograph every wall. Sofhu's designers go through the plan with you by video call before production. Send measurements in centimetres and state clearly which walls should carry seating.

Can the fabric colour be matched to my zellige or curtains?

Sofhu offers a wide choice of colours and patterns and takes custom requests for fabric and stitching. Colours on a phone screen are never exact, so send photos of the tiles and curtains in daylight and ask for the closest options. Sofhu does not state whether physical samples can be posted; ask if that matters to you.

Does sea air damage the foam?

Sofhu publishes no test of its foam against humidity, so no promise can be made. In practice, damp harms the covers first. Keep the room ventilated, do not push seating against a wall that sweats in winter, and take the zippered covers off to wash and dry fully at the change of season.

Is there a version in French for my family to read?

Yes. Sofhu has French pages on the salon marocain and on made-to-measure oriental salons, which cover seating choices and how ordering works in French. The enquiry itself can be started in English with measurements and photos; ask the team whether they can continue in French.
