Many Jordanian homes with the space for it keep two places to sit. One is the formal salon with its sofas and armchairs. The other is the jalsa arabiya: low seating along the walls where the family spends the evening and where close guests are brought once the formalities are over. If you are looking for an Arabic majlis in Jordan, the question is rarely whether to have one. It is how to get one that fits the room, lasts, and does not look like every kit in the market.
Sofhu is a manufacturer in Türkiye. It builds each set to the measurements of one room and ships it free to the door. Two products serve this room. The Arabic majlis, which Sofhu also sells under the name jalsa, is raised and fully upholstered, with a solid base and a fixed back. The Arabic floor sofa is the low set of floor mattresses and loose back cushions, the closest thing to the kits sold locally.
Where the jalsa arabiya sits in a Jordanian home
The guest room, the madafa, is central to hospitality in Jordan, and low Arabic seating lives comfortably beside the formal salon instead of replacing it. In practice the set ends up in one of four places.
| Space | Layout that usually works | What to think about |
|---|---|---|
| Apartment living room | Single wall or L-shape | Leave the route to the balcony door clear |
| Dedicated guest room | U-shape on three walls | Seats facing the door, armrests between places |
| Family hall or madafa | Long facing rows or a large U | Order the whole length at once so the fabric matches |
| Roof or terrace corner | L-shape, outdoor fabric | Shade, wind and somewhere dry to keep cushions |
The background to the room itself is in the guide to the Jordanian and Palestinian madafa.

Arabic majlis Jordan: fabrics that match local taste
Sadu-style stripes are a look many people in Jordan recognise at once: bands of red, black and white. Sofhu makes floor sofas in sadu-pattern upholstery fabric, and they suit a madafa or a roof corner where the mood is traditional. The Bedouin majlis and sadu page explains where the pattern comes from.
Not every room wants that. For a living room that shares space with a modern salon, medallion chenille in navy, khaki or burgundy reads as Arabic without the tent reference, and plain or quietly patterned weaves in taupe and grey sit well with stone floors and pale walls.

Cold highland winters, dry summers
Jordan’s highlands, where most people live, have cold winters. The summers are dry. That is a different brief from the Gulf, where heat is the main concern.
Foam. Sofhu uses 32 DNS foam, meaning 32 kg per cubic metre, with no springs. Density is the amount of material in the cushion, not how hard it feels, and denser foam generally keeps its height longer. Cushion thickness is selectable, and in a cold house a thicker seat puts more between you and the floor. Ask for the options when you request a quote. The foam density guide goes into the detail.
Fabric. Heavier cloth earns its place here. Velvet and chenille hold warmth, and Sofhu describes its suede series as a good option for autumn and winter. For a room that is mainly used in summer, linen is the cooler choice. All covers are zippered and can be removed and washed at 30°C.
Delivery to Jordan
Sofhu ships free worldwide and delivers to the door. There is no Sofhu shop, agent or stock in Jordan, so nothing can be collected locally or seen in person beforehand. You choose from photographs of finished rooms and settle the design with the team by WhatsApp or video call.
The cushions are vacuum-packed for transport, which keeps the parcels compact enough for an apartment stairwell. Once the bags are opened the foam recovers its shape. Open them by hand and keep blades away from the fabric.
Import duty or tax may apply depending on the destination. It has not been confirmed for Jordan, so ask how your order will be handled before you place it. The step-by-step process is set out in how to order a custom majlis online.

Amman, Zarqa and Irbid
Amman is Jordan’s largest city, with Zarqa and Irbid next. Amman has its own page because the city’s altitude and its mix of villas and apartments change the advice: see majlis sofas in Amman. Buyers in Zarqa, Irbid and the rest of the country order in exactly the same way, by measurement, with delivery to the address they give.
How to order a set for your room
- Measure each wall the seating will touch, at floor level, in centimetres.
- Note doors, windows, radiators and anything that sticks out from the wall.
- Photograph the room from the entrance.
- Decide on the layout and two or three fabrics you like.
- Send it all through the quote by measurement form or on WhatsApp.
Arabic floor sofas lean on the wall and are not freestanding, so plan each run against something solid. If you are still choosing between a low floor sofa and a raised jalsa, the Arabic jalsa page and the custom majlis page lay out the range.
