Tiled floors, shuttered windows and a veranda that is used for half the year: a house in Cyprus is built for heat, and an Arabic majlis in Cyprus should be chosen with the same logic. Sofhu makes each set to order in Türkiye, cut to the room, and ships it free. The decisions that matter most on the island are fabric first, then layout.
Choosing covers for a hot climate
Cyprus has long, hot Mediterranean summers. Fabric that feels luxurious in a cold country can feel heavy here by July, so it is worth being practical.
| Fabric | How it behaves in heat | Where it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Linen | Breathable and absorbent. Sofhu describes a refreshing effect in hot weather | Main living room, rooms without air conditioning |
| Flat woven and kilim patterns | Cooler than pile fabrics, hides wear | Family rooms, holiday homes |
| Velvet and chenille | Warmer to the touch, rich in colour | Air-conditioned formal majlis, winter rooms |
| Outdoor fabric | Water-resistant, wipes clean | Veranda, garden, poolside |
Every cover is zippered and removable, and Sofhu states they can be washed at 30°C. In a climate where people sit in light clothes and the windows are open to dust, covers that come off easily are worth more than any pattern. The existing page on the linen floor sofa explains that fabric, and velvet, linen and jacquard compared sets the options side by side. Pale colours suit bright rooms. Who orders a majlis on the island
Cyprus has Lebanese and other Arab business and expatriate communities, many of them in the coastal cities. For many of these households an Arabic sitting room is the ordinary way to receive guests, not a themed corner.
Lebanese and Syrian families usually describe a low sofa with cushions along the wall. That is closest to Sofhu’s Arabic floor sofa: a seat mattress on the floor with loose back cushions, armrest blocks, an ottoman and floor cushions. The pattern is set out on our page about Syrian and Levantine Arabic seating. Families from the Gulf tend to want the Arabic majlis itself, which is a different product: raised to sofa height and fully upholstered, with a solid base, tall fixed backs and arm bolsters between sitters. Sofhu builds both from your measurements.
Layouts for flats and villas
A flat in Limassol and a detached villa with a garden ask for different things.
- Apartment living room. An L-shape under the wide window wall keeps the room bright and leaves the balcony door free.
- Villa reception room. A U-shape along three walls makes a dedicated majlis that seats the most guests.
- Spare room or study. A single row gives a family corner that can also take an overnight guest.
One rule applies to all three. A majlis is built to line the walls, and floor sofas are not freestanding at all, so sliding glass doors cannot carry a run of seating.
The seat itself is 32 kg/m³ polyurethane foam with no springs. Density is how much material is in the cushion, and denser foam generally keeps its height longer. You can ask for a softer or firmer feel.
Veranda, garden and beach
Outdoor life is long in Cyprus, and Sofhu’s outdoor range is made for it: benches and sofas on handmade wooden frames, and a foldable, portable piece that goes in the car.
Sofhu describes its outdoor fabric as water-resistant and able to handle light rain and moisture. It does not publish a figure for sun exposure, and the summer sun here is strong. Keep cushions in the shade of the veranda roof where you can, and store them under cover in the wet months. The outdoor majlis hub, the existing outdoor sets page and our balcony and patio majlis ideas cover the choices.
Arabic sofa set delivery to Cyprus
Sofhu has no shop or stock in Cyprus. Sets are made in Türkiye, vacuum packed to reduce their volume and sent by cargo carrier, with free shipping. How a delivery is routed to your particular address on the island is confirmed by Sofhu when you order, so include the full address in your enquiry and ask about timing then. No fixed delivery time is published.
Duties or taxes may apply depending on the destination. Ask Sofhu before ordering, and see ordering a majlis from Türkiye to the EU.
