Majlis fabric is usually velvet, chenille, linen or a flat woven kilim-pattern cloth, finished with piping, tassels, fringe or embroidery. This Sofhu gallery shows fabric swatches and close-ups of majlis armrests, bases, seams and zips, plus two floor sofa details, so you can judge texture and finish before ordering a made-to-measure set. All covers are zippered and removable.

Majlis fabric seen up close
Room photos tell you the colour. They do not tell you how the majlis fabric is woven, how an armrest is finished or where the zip sits. This gallery is the close view: swatches laid flat, corners of cushions, bases, tassels and seams.
Most of the close-ups come from Sofhu’s raised, upholstered Arabic majlis sets, and the rest are loose fabric swatches and trims. Two frames show a low Arabic floor sofa instead, the burgundy velvet diwan floor sofa with a woven carpet pattern, because the same cloth families are used on both products.

Velvet, chenille, linen and woven cloth
Four families cover most of what you see here. Velvet is smooth with a soft sheen and takes embroidery and metallic stripes well. Chenille has a thicker pile and carries woven medallions and bands, like those on the navy, olive, teal, gold and grey swatches. Linen is matt and breathable, a sensible choice in hot weather, as the linen floor sofa page explains. Flat woven kilim-pattern cloth is the most relaxed of the four. Velvet vs linen vs jacquard compares them in use, and Sofhu’s fabrics page lists the series.
Tassels, fringe, piping and trays
Much of the character of a set sits in the details. Look for the cord tassels on the armrests, the fringe along a base, the gold baroque embroidery, the crossed bands on cushions and the white marble-top tray armrests. Stitching and embroidery can be specified per order, so point to the close-up you like. The parts of a majlis set guide names each piece.

The burgundy piece above is a diwan floor sofa, not a majlis: a thick velvet floor cushion with a woven diamond carpet pattern across the seat.
Zips, seams and washing
Every Sofhu cover is zippered and comes off the foam. The close-ups show piped seams and a zip along the side of a seat cushion. Sofhu states that covers can be machine washed at 30 degrees; velvet is washed cool and not tumble dried. For spills, see coffee, tea and henna stains.
