A majlis sofa for Al Khor is usually ordered for one of three places: a family home, a farm majlis or a beach rest house. Sofhu manufactures each set in Türkiye to the room's wall measurements, with 32 kg/m³ foam and removable washable covers that suit rooms used at weekends, and ships it free to Qatar.

Thursday evening, and the family car heads north out of Doha towards the farm. That weekend habit explains much of the demand for a majlis sofa in Al Khor. The coastal town is known for its fishing past, its mangroves and its family farms, and the farm and beach rest houses around it usually have one large room where everyone sits together. Al Khor is also home to many people who work in the energy industry at Ras Laffan. Sofhu makes Arabic seating for all of these rooms in Türkiye, to measure, and ships it free to Qatar.
Two products are on offer, and it helps to name them correctly. The Arabic majlis is the raised, sofa-height set with an upholstered base, tall fixed backs and arm bolsters, and it is what every photo on this page shows. The Arabic floor sofa is the low set: a seat mattress near the floor with loose back cushions, an ottoman and floor pillows.
The farm and rest-house majlis
A rest-house majlis is the simplest brief in the trade and the largest. It is one big room, used hard for two days and then closed. The seating runs along every free wall, the floor is covered in rugs, and the number of guests is rarely known in advance.
For a room like that, a few choices make life easier:
- A full U shape with few breaks. Long uninterrupted runs seat more people than a layout divided by many armrests, and children can lie down along them.
- Covers you can strip and wash. Sand, smoke from the fire and spilled tea are part of a weekend. Sofhu’s covers are zippered, and the company states they can be machine washed at 30°C.
- A forgiving colour. Mid-tones and patterns hide dust better than pale plain velvet.

If the feeling you want is the tent more than the salon, look at woven sadu-style fabrics. The background is on our Bedouin majlis and sadu page, and majlis seating for desert camps covers seating that is set up and packed away.
Arabic majlis sets for family homes in town
In Al Khor itself the majlis is the guest room of a family house, placed near the entrance as Qatari custom has it. Here the set is seen every day, so the finish matters more. The grey and gold majlis at the top of this page shows a complete room: raised seating on three walls, a patterned black base and the centre left open.

Where a full U will not fit, an L shape leaves one wall free for a door or a cabinet. The Arabic majlis hub explains the layouts, and the Qatari majlis page describes how the room is traditionally arranged.
Company housing and shorter stays
Families posted to Al Khor for work at Ras Laffan often live in company houses for a few years. A made-to-measure floor sofa suits that life better than it might seem. It is cut for the present living room, yet it is made of separate pieces that lift apart by hand. In the next house they can be laid out again as one long row or a smaller corner.
Send the measurements of the room you have now, and mention that you expect to move. The designer can then divide the run into modules that are easy to reuse.
Humidity on the coast
Al Khor sits on a humid coast. Indoors, air conditioning keeps the room dry while it is running, but a rest house that stands closed is a different matter. Foam has no springs or metal inside to rust, which helps. Beyond that, the defence is ordinary care: air the room, stand cushions on edge when you leave, and wash covers when you return.

For seating on a veranda or beside the water, ask for the outdoor line. Sofhu describes those fabrics as water-resistant and able to handle light rain and moisture. They belong under a roof or awning all the same. See the outdoor majlis hub.
Foam that copes with a full room
Sofhu fills its seats with 32 kg/m³ polyurethane foam, written as 32 DNS in Türkiye. Density is the amount of material in the cushion. Denser foam generally holds its height and support longer than lighter foam, which matters in a room where many people sit for hours. Firmness is a separate choice, and you can ask for a softer or firmer seat. If older relatives are regular guests, read floor seating for elderly guests before deciding.
Getting a quote for Al Khor
Measure every wall the seating will touch and mark the doors, windows and air-conditioning units. Send the figures, with photos, through get a quote by measurement or WhatsApp. Sofhu replies with a layout and a price, then makes the set, vacuum packs it and sends it to your address with free shipping.
