During Ramadan, Brookhurst Street stays awake. Families break the fast, then drift between the bakeries, markets and restaurants of Little Arabia until late. Sooner or later the night moves indoors, to somebody’s living room, with tea and more guests than chairs. A majlis sofa in an Anaheim home is built for exactly that hour. Sofhu makes one to the measurements of your room and ships it free from Türkiye.
From Brookhurst Street to your living room
Little Arabia, the stretch of West Anaheim along Brookhurst that the city officially designated in 2022, is the commercial and cultural centre for Arab Americans in Southern California. People drive in from across Orange County and beyond for its halal markets, bakeries and restaurants.
What the district sells is food and company. The room where the evening continues is yours to furnish. Low seating along the walls keeps the middle of the room open for the tray, the children and the latecomers, and nobody is left perched on a dining chair in the doorway. For hosting plans by guest count, see the iftar and Eid seating plan and Sofhu’s notes on Arabic sofas for Ramadan gatherings.
An Arabic furniture store in Anaheim: what Sofhu is
Sofhu is not a shop in Anaheim. It is the manufacturer, and it sells direct. That means no display to walk through, and it also means the set is not a standard size that almost fits. Each run of seating is cut to the wall it will lean on.
The trade-off is simple. You give up sitting on a sample. You gain a set made for your room, in the fabric and colour you choose, with the foam feel you ask for. The page on buying from an Arabic furniture store online explains how to judge quality from a distance.
Ranch houses and apartments: which layout fits
Many homes around Little Arabia are single-storey ranch houses or apartments, and the two call for different sets.
| Home | Layout that usually fits | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Apartment living room | Single row or L-shape | One or two free walls, a balcony door to keep clear |
| Ranch house living room | L-shape | Front window on one wall, hallway opening on another |
| Spare room or den | U-shape | Three uninterrupted walls for a full guest room |
Remember that the seating is not freestanding. Every section needs a wall or a solid surface behind it, so a run cannot float across the middle of a room.
One street, many ways of hosting
The restaurants on Brookhurst include Syrian, Lebanese, Palestinian, Egyptian and Yemeni kitchens, and the homes nearby host just as differently. A Levantine family may want a neat L-shaped jalsa as one corner of a larger living room, as described on the Syrian and Levantine seating page. A Yemeni household is more likely to want the whole room lined with seating, rug and curtains included.
Sofhu builds for both, and it makes two products. The Arabic majlis shown on this page is raised to sofa height and fully upholstered, with a solid base, fixed backs and arm bolsters. The Arabic floor sofa is a low set of seat mattresses and loose back cushions, the kind many Yemeni households ask for.
Lounges and restaurants in Little Arabia
Hookah lounges and restaurants are part of the district’s character, and wall-lined Arabic seating is part of theirs. Sofhu supplies businesses as well as homes and quotes commercial orders from a floor plan. Two guides are worth reading first: the hookah lounge seating layout for spacing and fabric choice, and the wholesale page for project orders.
Ordering a majlis sofa in Anaheim
Measure each wall in inches or centimetres and label the unit. Mark windows, doors, floor vents and outlets. Take photos from two corners. Send them with your preferred layout through the quote by measurement page or on WhatsApp.
The finished set is vacuum packed and delivered to your door with free shipping. Covers are zippered, and Sofhu states they can be machine washed at 30°C, which matters after a month of nightly guests.
For the rest of the state, see Arabic sofas in California. Neighbouring guides cover Los Angeles and Irvine.
