On this page
Most pages on this site explain how a set travels from Türkiye to another country. This one is about the short journey. Every Sofhu set is made here, so a customer who wants an Arabic majlis in Türkiye is buying from the manufacturer on home ground: the same made-to-measure product, the same 32 kg/m³ foam, with no border to cross.
Buying from the maker inside Türkiye
Sofhu is a manufacturer, not a reseller. It states that production takes place in workshops in several Turkish cities and that orders are coordinated from an office in Istanbul, with each product inspected before it leaves. The company’s own account is on the Who is Sofhu page.
For a buyer in Türkiye, three things follow from that.
- The set is made for your room. Nothing is picked from a shelf.
- You deal with the maker directly, by WhatsApp and video call.
- Delivery is domestic, and shipping is free.
Sofhu publishes no street address, so do not plan a visit without asking first. The custom majlis hub explains what can be changed on an order: fabric, colour, layout, cushion thickness and a softer or firmer foam.
Who orders an Arabic majlis here
A majlis inside Türkiye makes sense for several kinds of buyer.
Arab residents and property owners. Istanbul has a large Arab community, and cities such as Bursa, Trabzon and Yalova are popular with Arab families and investors, many of whom keep a home here for the summer. For them a majlis is simply how a sitting room is furnished.
The Arabic-speaking south-east. Provinces such as Şanlıurfa, Mardin and Hatay have long-established Arabic-speaking communities, and sitting and eating at floor level is part of home life across much of the region.
Hotels, restaurants and cafés. Businesses that welcome visitors from the Gulf often want a room that feels familiar to them.
Turkish households. Plenty of Turkish buyers want a low cushioned corner for a village house, a summer home or a balcony.

The burgundy corner above is that kind of set, an Arabic floor sofa with a carpet-pattern seat.
Sedir, minder and the Arabic majlis
Türkiye has its own tradition of wall seating, and it helps to keep the words straight. The sedir is the raised seat built along the wall of the traditional Turkish house, often under the windows and on three sides of the room, with cushioned backrests. It was the ordinary way to furnish a room in Ottoman times, until Western furniture replaced it from the nineteenth century onward. The minder is the floor cushion, and the şark köşesi is today’s retail name for a low corner set in kilim-pattern fabric.
| Term | What it is | Height |
|---|---|---|
| Sedir | Built-in or wooden wall bench with cushions | Raised |
| Yer minderi / şark köşesi | Firm cushions in a corner, an Arabic floor sofa | Floor level |
| Arabic majlis | Upholstered units with fixed backs and arm bolsters on two or three walls | Raised, sofa height |
Sofhu makes two main products and keeps their names apart. The Arabic floor sofa is the low set: a seat mattress at floor level, loose back cushions, armrest blocks and usually a matching ottoman. The Arabic majlis is the raised one, with a solid upholstered base and tall fixed backs. Together with the wooden bench sets they cover all three rows of the table. The page on the Turkish sedir and şark köşesi goes into the tradition, and majlis, diwan, jalsa and sedari: names by country sets the vocabulary side by side. Sofhu’s carved-wood line, built on solid beech frames, has its own existing page: the Turkish majlis by Sofhu.

Apartments, villas and summer houses
Most city homes in Türkiye are apartments with one main salon. A full perimeter majlis in that room means giving up the dining table, so many families choose an L-shape in one corner and keep the remainder of the room as it is. Neither a majlis nor a floor sofa is freestanding. Each run needs a wall behind it, which makes the solid corner away from the balcony door the natural place.
A villa or summer house can spare a whole room. There a U-shape on three walls, with a rug and ottoman in the centre, gives the dedicated majlis that guests from the Gulf will recognise.

For gardens, terraces and balconies, wooden benches with cushions in water-resistant fabric are shown on the existing outdoor sets page.
Climate varies a great deal across the country. On the humid Black Sea coast around Trabzon, choose breathable linen or a flat weave and make use of the removable covers, which Sofhu states can be washed at 30°C. In the hot, dry south-east the same fabrics keep a room cool in summer. Velvet and chenille suit the cold winters of the interior.
Hotels, restaurants and cafés
Arabic restaurants, shisha cafés and hotel lounges are the usual commercial settings for this seating. Their brief is different from a home’s: hard daily use, quick cleaning and a layout that turns tables. Sofhu accepts wholesale enquiries from small and large companies and builds to a project plan. See the wholesale majlis and Arabic sofas hub, the existing pages on the Arabic jalsah for restaurants and the Arabic majlis for hotels, and our guide to floor seating restaurant design.
Delivery within Türkiye
A domestic order is packed the same way as an export one. Cushions are vacuum sealed to reduce their volume and sent by cargo carrier, and shipping is free. Open the bags by hand, without a blade, and the foam recovers its shape. The article on how a majlis is packed and delivered shows what to expect. Sofhu does not publish production or delivery times, so ask for both when you receive the quote.
