Many families in Slovenia already have a word for low seating along the wall: sećija. It came to Bosnia in the Ottoman centuries and stayed, and Bosnian households carried the habit north with them. An Arabic majlis belongs to the same family of furniture. It is a run of cushioned seating around the edge of a room, made for coffee, conversation and guests. Sofhu builds these sets to measure in Türkiye and ships them free, so an Arabic majlis in Slovenia is a matter of sending the right measurements.
Low seating in Slovenian homes
Slovenia’s Muslim community is mostly Bosniak and Albanian in origin and is centred on Ljubljana. It is a small community in a small country, which is why there has never been a local trade in this kind of furniture.
For a Bosnian family the occasions are familiar: coffee in the afternoon, Bajram visits, a houseful of relatives. The seating they have in mind is low, firm and continuous, with cushions at the back. That is close to what the Turkish house calls a sedir, a raised seat built along the wall, and our page on the Turkish sedir traces that Ottoman tradition. Arab and Gulf seating follows the same idea, and Sofhu makes it as two products. The Arabic majlis, also called a jalsa and shown on the Arabic jalsa page, is raised to sofa height and fully upholstered, with a solid base and tall fixed backs. The Arabic floor sofa takes the seat down to the floor, with loose back cushions and armrest blocks.

Floor level or bench height
This is the first decision, and it is a practical one rather than a matter of authenticity.
- Arabic floor sofas are foam seat cushions laid on the floor with loose back cushions against the wall. They are light, modular and easy to rearrange. They suit a relaxed family room.
- Arabic majlis sets are raised, upholstered units with fixed backs, like the grey velvet one above. They give a guest room a formal, built look.
- Raised bench sets have a wooden frame with cushions on top, and are nearest to the sećija and the sedir. Sofhu describes them on its wooden bench majlis page. They suit a formal room and older guests.
Many households mix the two. The guides to floor seating vs raised diwan, majlis seat height and hosting elderly guests help with the choice.
How a set turns the corner
Low wall seating usually runs along two walls, and the corner is where a made-to-measure set shows its worth. Sofhu fills the angle with a shaped corner piece so the two runs read as one seat, with no gap for cushions to slide into.

For this to work the measurements must be right. Measure both walls at floor level, in centimetres, from the corner outwards. Note doors, radiators and low windows. Plan every run against solid wall, since the seating is made to line the walls of a room.
What comes with the seating
The seats, backrests and armrests are the core of an order, but a room in this tradition is finished by its textiles. Sofhu makes rugs and kilims, ottomans, floor cushions and curtains to go with its sets, and can produce them in the same fabric family so the room reads as one design. If you already own a carpet you want to keep, send a photo of it and choose the seating colours around it.
Fabrics for an alpine and continental climate
Slovenia’s climate is alpine and continental, with cold winters and warm summers. Velvet and chenille feel warm and suit a room used mainly in the cold months; Sofhu describes its suede series as a good choice for autumn and winter. Linen is described as breathable and absorbent, and is pleasant in summer. A burgundy and cream stripe, as below, brings some of the colour of a traditional room without darkening it.

All covers are zippered and can be removed; Sofhu states they wash at 30°C. The cushions are filled with 32 DNS polyurethane foam, which weighs 32 kg per cubic metre. Density describes how much material is in the cushion, not how hard it feels, and denser foam generally keeps its shape longer. Sofhu describes its foam as firm, and you can ask for a softer feel if you prefer. There are no springs.
Arabic sofa set delivery to Slovenia
Floor sofa cushions are vacuum packed in sealed bags, which keeps the parcels small enough for a stairwell. Open the bags by hand and the foam returns to shape. Shipping is free.
Duties or taxes may apply depending on the destination; ask Sofhu before ordering and read the guide to ordering a majlis from Türkiye to the EU. Sofhu also has pages for neighbouring Austria and Italy.
Asking for a quote
Send the wall lengths, a photo of the room, the seat height you prefer and the colours you like, by the quote form or WhatsApp. Sofhu’s designers can review the plan with you on a video call before the set is made.
