Late on a Ramadan night the southern end of Edgware Road is still busy. Between Marble Arch and the Marylebone flyover, the shisha cafés, Arabic pharmacies and Lebanese, Egyptian, Iraqi and Gulf restaurants keep their lights on long after the rest of the West End has gone home. This stretch is London’s best-known Arab quarter, sometimes called Little Cairo or Little Beirut. If you are looking for an Arabic majlis on Edgware Road, London, there are two likely reasons: a flat nearby, or a business on the street. Sofhu serves both, from Türkiye, to order. It makes two products: the Arabic majlis, raised to sofa height and fully upholstered with a solid base and fixed backs, and the Arabic floor sofa, a low set of seat mattresses and loose back cushions.
No shop on the street, and why that helps
Sofhu does not have premises on Edgware Road. It is the manufacturer. Sets are built from your measurements and shipped free to the address you give.
For a flat or a café, that is an advantage. Neither a mansion-block reception room nor a shopfront comes in a standard size. Seating from a fixed range fits them by luck. Seating cut to the wall fits them by design.
A majlis sofa in a mansion-block flat
Much of the housing off Edgware Road is mansion-block flats. Two things follow: access is by lift or stair, and the reception room has to work hard.
Access first. A floor sofa set has no rigid frame. It arrives as cushions, vacuum packed. A majlis is built as upholstered units, so tell Sofhu the floor and the lift size, and ask how the order will be parcelled.
Then layout. In a reception room that is also the dining room, a single row along the longest wall or an L-shape in one corner is usually enough. The post on a majlis in a small apartment shows compact plans.

Not every guest wants to sit at floor level. The navy floor sofa above is on a medium-height base, with a taller ottoman to match, and a majlis sits higher still. The majlis seat height guide compares floor-level, mid and raised seats.
Plain velvet, restrained stripes and a calm palette sit well in a London flat. The beige majlis at the top of this page is in that manner. The page on the Emirati and Dubai jalsa describes the style.
Majlis and floor seating for Edgware Road cafés and restaurants
Cafés and restaurants are the other realistic buyers here. Seating built along the walls uses a narrow floor well, and it tells a passer-by at a glance what kind of place this is.

Black velvet with gold stripes, as on the majlis above, suits a room used mostly after dark; see black and gold majlis ideas. Whatever the colour, plan around service.
- Leave a clear route for staff from the counter to every bay.
- Keep seat runs short enough that nobody is trapped in a corner.
- Choose a raised majlis, not a low floor sofa, if tables are at dining height.
Sofhu’s own pages on Arabic majlis for cafés and shisha cafés and Arabic jalsah for restaurants show how its seating is used in venues. The posts on hookah lounge seating layout and floor seating restaurant design go into spacing and fabric. For several rooms or sites, start at the wholesale majlis sofas hub.
One caution. Public venues in the UK have furnishing requirements of their own, and Sofhu publishes no statement on them. Check what your premises needs and raise it before you order.
Fabric and filling
Covers are zippered and removable, and Sofhu states they can be machine washed at 30°C. In a venue, that means a marked cover can be taken off after closing instead of the seat being out of use.

A busy kilim pattern like the one on the grey floor sofa above shows marks less than plain cloth does. The seats are filled with 32 kg/m³ high-density foam, with no springs. Denser foam generally holds its height longer, which matters when a seat is used by dozens of people a day.
