The short answer

Saint Paul has no dedicated majlis shop to visit, so a majlis sofa is ordered to measure. Sofhu, the manufacturer, builds raised majlis sets and low Arabic floor sofas in Türkiye from your wall measurements as a single row, L-shape or U-shape, with 32 kg/m³ high-density foam and zippered washable covers, and ships it free to your door. A quote starts with your measurements and room photos.

A typical older Saint Paul house gives you two rooms at the front: a living room, and a dining room behind or beside it. That second room is the reason a majlis sofa fits Saint Paul so well. One room can stay as it is, and the other can be lined with a raised majlis or a low floor sofa for guests, tea and long evenings. Sofhu makes that seating to your wall measurements in Türkiye and ships it free to your address.

Why Saint Paul’s two-room layout suits a majlis

A separate living and dining room lets you keep a proper guest room without giving up daily life. Much of the city’s housing is older single-family homes and duplexes built this way, and the rooms tend to be regular in shape with a clear wall or two.

Wall seating needs exactly that, and Sofhu makes it in two forms. An Arabic floor sofa is the low one: a seat mattress at floor level with loose back cushions that lean on the wall, armrest blocks and usually an ottoman. An Arabic majlis, like the light grey set below, is raised to sofa height on an upholstered base, with tall fixed backs and arm bolsters. Neither is freestanding, so the length of solid wall decides the size of the set. Wide openings between rooms, radiators and built-in cabinets all shorten the run, and they are easier to plan around on paper than after delivery.

Who orders a majlis sofa in Saint Paul

This seating is for families who already host this way and want it to fit the house they live in now. Saint Paul shares the Twin Cities’ large Somali community and is also home to Oromo families, with East African shops in the Midway area. For households like these, a room where guests sit along the walls facing one another is the normal way to receive people, on an ordinary Friday as much as at Eid.

The Somali Arabic seating page looks at that style of room, and the Minnesota page covers the state as a whole, including Afghan toshak sets.

Which layout for which Saint Paul home

Match the layout to the walls you have, not to the size of the family.

HomeUsual choiceWhy
Single-family houseU-shape in the second front roomThree usable walls, guests face each other
Duplex unitL-shapeOne long wall plus a short return, doorways stay clear
ApartmentSingle row or small LLeaves floor space and moves easily

The differences between the two larger layouts are set out on the L-shape and U-shape majlis page. If you are unsure how to take the measurements, follow how to measure a room for a majlis.

Fabric and foam for long winters indoors

Winter is when the room is used most, so choose for months of daily sitting. Sofhu fills its cushions with 32 kg/m³ high-density foam and no springs. Density is the weight of foam in the cushion, not a measure of hardness, and denser foam generally keeps its height and support longer. You can ask for a softer or firmer seat.

Velvet is the natural winter cover. Sofhu describes its velvets as durable and easy to clean, and the pile feels warm to the touch. Suede, which Sofhu recommends for autumn and winter, is another cold-season option. The comparison in velvet vs linen vs jacquard goes further, and the fabrics page lists the series.

From quote to your front door

Sofhu has no shop in Minnesota, and each set is built to order. Send your wall lengths, photos of the room and the colours you like through the quote form or on WhatsApp. The design can be settled by message or video call.

The finished set travels vacuum packed in sealed bags. Open them by hand, without a blade, and the foam returns to shape. For the customs side of an order from Türkiye, read importing a majlis to the USA. To compare complete sets, start with the majlis sofa set guide or the main Arabic majlis page.

Questions

Before you order

Should the majlis go in the living room or the dining room?

In a house with both, many families keep everyday furniture in one and give the other to wall seating. The room with fewer doorways and more unbroken wall usually works better, because every seat needs a wall behind it. Send photos of both rooms and Sofhu can suggest which one gives the longer run.

Will a floor sofa feel cold on a Minnesota floor in January?

The seat is a thick block of foam, so you are sitting on the cushion and not on the floorboards. A rug in the centre of the room does the rest for feet and for children playing. Sofhu can make a rug to match the set, or you can plan the seating around one you own.

We rent the upper unit of a duplex. Is a majlis practical?

Yes. The set is modular, sits on the floor without fixings and does not scratch floors, so nothing is attached to the property. When you move, the pieces can be rearranged for a different room, for example turning a U-shape into an L-shape and a separate single row.

How do I keep the covers clean through a winter of boots and salt?

Shoes normally stay at the door in a majlis room, which solves most of it. For the rest, every cover has a zipper and comes off. Sofhu states the covers can be machine washed at 30°C. Let them dry fully before refitting them over the foam.

Does Sofhu deliver to the Midway, the East Side and the suburbs?

Sofhu delivers to home addresses across Saint Paul and the wider Twin Cities area, free of shipping charge. There are no zones or pickup points to choose between. Give the delivery address with your measurements so it is part of the quote from the beginning.

Is there anything to pay at delivery?

Shipping itself is free. Import duty or tax depends on United States customs rules for the goods and may apply. The honest answer is to ask Sofhu how this is handled for your order when you receive the quote, before you confirm anything.
