Floor-level or raised: the first decision
A floor sofa is cushions only: a seat mattress on the floor, loose back cushions against the wall, armrest blocks between, usually with an ottoman and floor pillows. A majlis is raised to sofa height, built either as fully upholstered units on a solid base with fixed backs or on a wooden frame.

A spread-out community that buys online
The Indianapolis area has a mixed Arab, South Asian and African Muslim community, spread across the city and its suburbs. What the area does not have is a single commercial district where this kind of furniture is sold.

Put a majlis upstairs, where formal guests are received and where older relatives will sit. Put a floor sofa in the basement, where the family relaxes and children can spread out. Fabric for cold winters

What the cushions are made of
Every seat is filled with 32 kg/m³ high-density polyurethane foam, with no springs inside. The number states density, the weight of one cubic metre, and says nothing by itself about hardness. Denser foam generally holds its height and support longer. On a custom order you can ask for a softer or firmer feel.
Covers are zippered and removable. Sofhu states that floor-set covers can be machine washed at 30°C.
