A stone house in the mountain with the stove lit in January, and a balcony above the sea in August: the same family often sits in both, and wants a jalsa arabiyeh in each. That is the practical starting point for an Arabic majlis in Lebanon. Sofhu makes every set to order in Türkiye, cuts it to the walls you measure, and ships it free. What changes between the coast and the mountain is the fabric and the shape, so this page deals with those first.
Where the jalsa arabiyeh sits in a Lebanese home
Lebanese houses have long been planned around a reception room, the dar or the liwan, where guests are received and the family gathers. In an apartment that role falls to the salon. The Arabic corner, the jalsa arabiyeh, is usually a second sitting place: a room in the mountain house, a covered terrace, a glazed balcony, or one side of a large living room.
It is just as visible outside the home. Many restaurants and cafés seat guests on low Arabic sofas, and Sofhu makes seating for that kind of project. See the existing pages on a majlis for cafés and shisha cafés and a jalsa for restaurants.
The older Levantine reception room used a low sofa running along the walls of a raised sitting area, with cushions against the wall. Our page on Syrian and Levantine Arabic seating describes it. Sofhu builds both heights, and they are two different products. The Arabic majlis is its raised, fully upholstered set at sofa height, with a solid base, tall fixed backs and arm bolsters, and it is what most photographs on this page show. The Arabic floor sofa is the low cushion set that sits directly on the floor, with loose back cushions and an ottoman. The Arabic jalsa page has more, and there are carved wooden frame sets such as the Turkish majlis line as well.
Coast and mountain call for different fabric
Summers in Beirut, Tripoli and Saida are humid. Winters in the mountain are cold. One fabric will not be right for both, so choose by where the set will live.
| Where | What the climate does | Fabric that suits |
|---|---|---|
| Coastal apartment | Humid summer air, salt, open windows | Linen or a flat woven cover |
| Mountain house | Cold winters, wood stove or heater | Velvet, chenille or suede |
| Covered terrace | Sun, dust, the odd shower | Outdoor line in water-resistant fabric |
| Café or restaurant | Constant use, spills | Velvet or a tight woven fabric with washable covers |
Sofhu describes its linen as absorbent and porous, with a refreshing effect in hot weather, which is what a coastal summer asks for. The linen floor sofa page shows it. Velvet and chenille hold warmth and feel right beside a stove. The comparison of velvet, linen and jacquard goes through the trade-offs.

Whatever you choose, the covers are zippered and come off, and Sofhu states they can be machine washed at 30°C. On the coast, washing covers at the end of summer and drying them fully before the damp months is worth the hour it takes.
Arabic floor seating in Lebanon by type of home
The shape follows the walls you have free.
- City apartment. An L-shape in the corner furthest from the balcony door keeps the passage clear. A single row under a window turns a glazed balcony into a sitting room.
- Mountain or village house. A room given over to the jalsa can take a U-shape along three walls, which seats the most people for a winter evening or a feast day.
- Terrace or garden. Wooden benches with cushions are Sofhu’s answer for outdoors. The outdoor majlis page covers them.
The cream set with burgundy sadu motifs below is a floor sofa in an L-shape, with its ottoman and floor cushions.

Indoor floor sofas are not freestanding. Each run needs a wall or something solid behind it, so glass balustrades and sliding doors cannot carry seating. The pieces are modular, though, and can be rearranged if you move house.

What is inside a majlis sofa
The seats are filled with 32 kg/m³ polyurethane foam, which Sofhu calls 32 DNS. The number is density: the weight of material in a cubic metre of foam. It is not a measure of hardness. Denser foam generally keeps its height and support longer, which matters for a seat that also takes overnight guests. There are no springs in the cushions, and you can ask for a softer or firmer feel when you order.
Arabic sofa set delivery to Lebanon
Sofhu has no shop or stock in Lebanon. Sets are made to order, vacuum packed to reduce their volume, and sent by cargo carrier with free shipping. Our guide to how a majlis is packed and delivered shows what arrives at the door and how the foam recovers once the bags are opened.
Two things should be settled before you commit. First, how the order will travel to your address and when: Sofhu confirms this per order and publishes no fixed delivery time. Second, how you will pay. Arrangements for customers in Lebanon are agreed directly with Sofhu, so ask at the start. Duties or taxes may also apply depending on the destination.
What to send for a quote
- The length of each wall that will carry seating, measured at floor level, with doors, radiators and sockets marked. How to measure a room for a majlis has a worked example.
- Photos of the room in daylight.
- Coast or mountain, indoor or terrace, so the fabric advice fits.
- Your town and full delivery address.
Then get a quote by measurement or send the same details on WhatsApp. If you are furnishing a flat in the capital, the Beirut page looks at apartments, roof terraces and lounges in more detail.
