Cream majlis sets and floor sofas in an ordinary room

This gallery mixes two products, and it helps to know which is which. Roughly three in five photos show the Arabic majlis: raised, sofa-height units with an upholstered base, fixed backs and arm bolsters. The rest show the Arabic floor sofa: a low seat mattress with loose back cushions, an ottoman and floor pillows. Sofhu makes both, and both come in these pale shades.

From ivory to taupe

The shades run from near-white ivory with gold damask, through warm beige velvet majlis sets with gold-striped backrests, to greige and taupe majlis units with fine gold lines. How much gold

Gold shows up in three strengths. A thin metallic stripe on the backrest is the quietest. Damask panels woven with gold are richer. Baroque embroidery along the base, with fringe and tassels, is the full formal treatment. Decide this early, because it changes the character of the set more than the base colour does. Keeping a pale set clean

This is the fair question to ask of cream. Sofhu covers are zippered and removable, and Sofhu states they can be machine washed at 30 degrees; velvet floor sofa covers should be washed cool and kept out of the tumble dryer. Is a cream majlis practical with young children?

It asks for more care than a dark pattern, but it is workable. The covers come off by zip, and Sofhu states they can be machine washed at 30 degrees. A beige kilim-pattern weave hides marks far better than plain ivory velvet, so if you want pale but forgiving, look at the patterned beige majlis sets in this gallery.

Will the gold look yellow or champagne?

It depends on the fabric. In these photos the ivory damask sets carry a soft champagne gold woven into the cloth, while the beige velvet sets have brighter metallic stripes and trim. Tell us which you prefer when you ask for a quote, and name the photo, since screens shift warm tones.

What wall colours suit a beige or cream majlis?

White and warm off-white keep the room airy and let the gold show. Light grey walls give more contrast; the beige kilim-pattern sets here are photographed against grey and hold their own. Strong wall colours can work too, but then keep the rug and curtains close to the tone of the seating.

Can I add a darker accent to a cream set?
