A majlis sofa for Darwin should be chosen for the climate first. Sofhu makes each set to your wall measurements in Türkiye and ships it free. For the tropical wet season, pick a breathable fabric such as linen, rely on the zippered covers that wash at 30°C, and keep the cushions aired. Sofhu has no shop in Darwin; ordering is by measurement.
On this page
Darwin has a tropical climate with two seasons: a hot, humid wet season and a dry season of clear, sunny days. Any upholstered furniture here lives through months of damp air followed by months of dry heat. So the first question about a majlis sofa in Darwin is not the colour or the pattern. It is how the set will cope with the weather, and how easily you can look after it.
Sofhu makes two products, and the climate is a good reason to know both. The Arabic majlis, which most photos on this page show, is raised, sofa-height seating in upholstered units with fixed backs and arm bolsters. The Arabic floor sofa is a low set of loose cushions on a seat mattress.
What the wet season asks of floor seating
Humidity is hard on anything that cannot be opened up and cleaned. A sofa with fixed upholstery traps moisture where you cannot reach it. A floor sofa is built differently. Every seat, back cushion and armrest is a separate foam block inside its own zippered cover, so each piece can be stood on end to air and each cover can come off. The cream sadu-pattern set below is a floor sofa of this kind.
Sofhu states that its covers can be machine washed at 30°C. In Darwin that matters more than in a dry city. Wash the covers at the end of the wet season, dry them fully, and refit them. The foam inside has no springs or metal, so there is nothing in the cushion to rust.
Sofhu does not publish a mould-resistance rating for its foam or fabric. The points above are about care, not about a treatment.

Fabric: linen, woven or velvet
The cover is the part of the set you feel, and in the tropics it should breathe.
| Fabric | How Sofhu describes it | Where it suits in Darwin |
|---|---|---|
| Linen | Absorbent, porous, refreshing in hot weather | Louvred, naturally ventilated rooms |
| Flat woven | Does not wrinkle | Everyday family rooms |
| Velvet | Durable, easy to clean | Air-conditioned guest rooms |
Sofhu’s own linen floor sofa page shows the linen range, and our comparison of velvet, linen and jacquard explains how each feels in use. Pale colours such as beige and cream show less fading in strong light than deep reds and blues, though Sofhu gives no light-fastness figure for any fabric.
The teal velvet majlis below is the air-conditioned guest-room choice.

Foam that keeps its shape
Sofhu fills its cushions with 32 kg/m³ (32 DNS) high-density foam. The number is the weight of one cubic metre of the foam. It says how much material is in the seat, not how hard it is. Denser foam generally keeps its height and support longer than light budget foam, which is what you want from a seat that will be sat on, lifted, aired and put back many times. If you prefer a softer or firmer seat, ask when you order.
Indoor and outdoor rooms
Darwin houses blur the line between inside and out, with louvres, breezeways and deep verandas. A floor set suits that way of living because it is low, open and easy to move for cleaning.
For a covered veranda, look at Sofhu’s outdoor range, which uses water-resistant fabric on wooden frames. Sofhu describes it as able to handle light rain and moisture, which is not the same as a monsoon downpour, so plan to bring cushions in when the storms come. The outdoor majlis page and Sofhu’s outdoor sofas and benches page show the options, and there are layout ideas in our guide to a balcony or patio majlis.
Indoors, remember that floor sofas are not freestanding. Each piece needs a solid wall behind it, and a bank of louvre windows is not one. Measure only the solid wall sections.

Ordering a majlis sofa for Darwin
Sofhu is the manufacturer and has no shop or stock in Darwin, or anywhere in Australia. Darwin is a small and very multicultural city, and buyers here come to floor seating from many directions: some grew up with it, others simply like sitting low. The process is the same for everyone.
- Measure the solid walls the seating will run along.
- Send the measurements and room photos through the quote form or WhatsApp.
- Choose a layout: single row, L-shape or U-shape.
- Agree the fabric and cushion thickness, then wait for the set to be made and shipped.
Shipping is free. Sets travel vacuum packed, and the foam expands once the bags are opened. Import taxes or charges may apply to goods entering Australia, so ask Sofhu before you order. Our guide to importing a majlis to Australia covers the official rules.
